Cramping?

Be patient with me... This is baby #1 and I've been having some cramping but only on my right side.. today it is a little sharper then before. How normal is this? I'm still trying to get into a ob but I am roughly 6 weeks. Should I be freaking out?

ETA my Mom had 5 miscarriages so deep down I have this super fear of that happening...

Re: Cramping?

  • Cramping is generally fine unless it's associated with bleeding and even then spotting can be totally normal. I've had cramping since a few days before I got my BFP and it's definitely targeted on my left side. Don't freak out!

  • Ok... Thank you! I feel like I'm obsessing over every little ache and pain ;)

  • This is my second and I'm cramping horribly. I get a sharp, stabbing pain on my left side that is worse whenever I move. It's been about 3 days of it. I'm a bit scared too, but am trying not to be. There isn't any spotting or bleeding or anything so I'm hopeful that it's normal.

Hard not to obsess, and even harder not to freak out after googling. We have a health link number we can call and talk to RNs - I'm not sure if you have access to anything like that, but I know they are really good for helping determine if something is normal or if you need to get in with the Dr. They are also good at suggesting solutiobs, OTC drugs or treatments that can help and are safe.
  • Thanks! finally got a hold of a OB and I'm just waiting for a call back for a appointment

  • I've had some cramping the past couple days too.  Last night I woke up to pee and I was completely stretched out on my back.  I almost never sleep on my back.  When I got up I had a sharp pain on my right side.  My first reaction was to bend over which seemed to make the pain go away pretty quickly.  All of that leads me to believe I stretched something.  Yes,  the paranoid side of me wants to worry but I've not seen any spotting so I'm going to believe that everything is fine.  :)

Hormone changes have caused me to have a major cold sore outbreak which is giving me enough to stress about.  :(

Here's to healthy pregnancy ladies! :)

  • My OB warned me that it's common to get an ovarian cyst (I think she said it's "to help support the pregnancy" somehow), and that she was only telling me which side it was on so that I wouldn't freak if I felt pain/discomfort on that side from it. So maybe that's all that's going on with you guys? :)

  • I know!  The sense of smell is nuts. I'm a high school teacher and a student put a rubber band ball on my desk, which I could smell.  So weird...

  • I went to a craft show with my MIL and SIL and they of course brought their dogs...who had apparently gotten into something and ended up being sick the whole day. It was awful! I normally have such a strong stomach and I was gagging about everything! We ended up telling my MIL just because she was getting worried because I was refusing to eat and wouldn't take anything for my "migraine"

  • I'm the same way! This is our first too and just the 'unknowing' part is killing me. I know I'm being over cautious but for every little ache or pain I want an explanation. FTM jitters, I suppose.

My mother also had many miscarriages so it's definitely in the back of my mind too.

Congratulations and I hope everything works out well for you!

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one! Not that I want anyone else to cramp either, I just find it kind of reassuring that this is something that is normal. I'm only 4 weeks along do I've got a while to go before the risk drops.
  • My cramping is supposedly due to my enlarged ovaries - doc said they are the size of tennis balls.  No wonder my pants won't fit.  Glad you're getting into an OB

  • Cramping is very normal, especially in the early weeks as that means the baby is making a happy home inside you. Your body is adjusting big time, so there will be some aches and pains along the way. The time to be concerned is if the pain is unbearable and/or bleeding heavily. However, always good to see your doctor just in case. I cramped with my first until about 8-10 weeks. I'm cramping now with baby number 2 and I'm 6 weeks. I've also had two miscarriages. So, i understand your anxiety/concern. Hoping for all healthy pregnancies!
  • @towncargirl
According to my LMP, EDD is June 8 but I don't have my first appointment until Nov 7 to confirm, etc.
    When's yours?
  • Just got my blood work back today and they think I am closer to 4 weeks instead of 6 weeks. I have to go back for more blood work on Monday and then my first appointment is on Nov. 4th!

  • That's quite a difference. I'm afraid that'll happen to me too once I go in on the 7th.
Here's to happy and healthy babies! [-O<
  • I'm cramping, too, without bleeding. This is my second baby, and this didn't happen with dd, so it's caught me off guard, too. I had an early m/c before also, but bleeding started before cramping then. Hang in there!

  • I had cramping on my left side and slight spotting so my dr had me go in for an ultrasound at 7wks. They found no major reason for the spotting but as for the cramping on my left side it was due to a cyst that had formed on my left ovary. They said that the egg that was fertilized came from my left ovary and then when the baby implanted the shell is basically an small cyst on my ovary, but that when the second trimester comes, most of the time the cyst goes away along with the cramping.

My sickness hasn't been that bad but my sense of smell is ridiculous! I feel like a bassett hound! I feel like a bloated whale and my face looks like I'm back in jr high lolol. Here's to pregnancy! Haha

  • I've had a good bit of cramping, too.  This is my first pregnancy so I was a bit worried at first but from what I've read it's pretty normal unless accompanied by bleeding.
