Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How many ounces?

Once your LO turned 3 months, they prob went through another growth spurt? How many ounces did they go up?

Currently my LO is turning 3 months next week and I think she is going through another growth spurt already. She currently gets 3 4oz bottles of BM at daycare and today actually took a 4th one. Should I increase the bottle oz to 5?

Re: How many ounces?

  • Just curious: she takes 3 bottles in how many hours?

  • (this is for los feed exclusively with bm) I believe the number of ounces per feeding is dependent on how many feedings your lo has in one day.  They say from 1 month-6 months the number of ounces per day says the same, that is because your milk changes to the needs of your growing child (including calorie increase).  Pretty miraculous, huh!!  So for an average healthy baby it is 20-25 oz. per day.  Obviously this is a general guide line, and each feeding they might drink different amounts (ie bigger feedings in the morning and before bed, smaller feedings in the afternoon).  So my 8wk DS still eats 8-9 times a day so I make his bottles about 3oz.
  • Yes it all depends on how many times a day they are eating. DD is down to 6 or 7 times at 10 weeks so if I were to give her a bottle I do 4 oz. She doesn't always eat all of it (especially in the MOTN) but I have never had to do much more than that. Though next time I leave a day bottle I might leave 5 oz and see what she does.
