Type 1 Intro

Hey ladies! I am Sara, I am 21, and I have had Type 1 Diabetes for 13.5 years. My husband and I have been married for two and a half years and are expecting our first babe sometime in the beginning of June. (Official due date is June 11 but we will likely come earlier than that.) I will be six weeks pregnant tomorrow and I'm already having all sorts of symptoms and my diabetes is definitely reacting... I've become incredibly insulin resistant so my endo has put me on Metformin for the duration of my pregnancy to help with it. It's definitely helping but, combined with my hormones, it's making me feel like I have motion sickness off and on during the day. But if it helps the kid and I be as healthy as possible, I'm willing to do it! This is the most strict and on top of my disease I've ever been in my life so I'm taking this kid as a double blessing for that and I'm hoping so much that we have a healthy and a happy pregnancy resulting with a healthy and happy baby! Anyway, I just wanted to say hello. I don't know anyone else who is Type 1 Diabetic, and certainly no one else who's had it with their pregnancy so I figured this is a good place to join others and find some common ground in all this madness!

HI!  I'm not pregnant yet, but planning/hoping to be within the next 6 months.  I'm 32 (almost 33) and have been T1 since I was 18.  Looking forward to chatting with you!

Welcome! I am a Type 1 also. I just gave birth to my first child in Feb at 34 years old. I was insulin resistant a lot during my 1st trimester (and 3rd). I was constantly upping my dosage. My doctor's took me off metformin for the duration of my pregnancy though. Lol.. I will say I was at my healthiest and had the best #'s during my pregnancy. Congratulations!

Hello Sara, I am also a T1 I am 31 and have been diabetic since I was 8 years old. I am almost 7 weeks pregnant as well so due just before you. 

I would be careful taking the Metformin the whole pregnancy because I have heard that the insulin resistance comes and goes throughout pregnancy. At first I was insulin resistant but the last 2 days I am low all the time and have to decrease my insulin ratios.

Hi!  I'm T1 and am about 7 weeks pregnant, will hopefully find out my dates with ultrasound this afternoon.  I'm meeting with my endo on Thursday, but so far, haven't noticed too much difference in glucose levels.  I was really low yesterday (36), that's it.  I have a pump and CGM, which is a life saver.  Best of luck!

So glad to have some others join!  Congrats to you Sara and kks4471.  My name is Kate, im 31 and have been type 1 for about 13 years.  I am 9 weeks pregnant and have an insulin pump, and I just got my CGM last week!  I have been super insulin resistant since I found out I was pregnant, and have had to make lots of adjustments.  I am hoping this changes soon!

Hi I'm a type 1 (diagnosed 9 yrs ago), 31 years old & currently 30 weeks pregnant with my second little girl. I have a healthy 2 1/2 year old daughter. This is my first pregnancy on the pump so I'm a little better controlled. I had lows in the 1st tri, my insulin dosage doubled in the 2nd tri, and now I'm anticipating more lows as I near the end of my pregnancy (happened with my first due to placenta deterioration). This is so exciting meeting all you girls! I forgot to mention I am on a Medtronic Pump and a Dexcom CGM as well.

Leigh313, when you say "more controlled now", just curious how controlled you were with your first pregnancy, my a1c was 7.3 about a month before I got pregnant, but they haven't checked it since (I am 9 and a half weeks now). I am sure it is lower, especially since I have the CGM now, but I still have numbers in the 200s here and there....thanks:)

Hi! I'm a T2 (diagnosed as GD during my 1st pg, then it just never went away so now I'm a T2), but just got put on an insulin pump and am finding the advice of T1 ladies on here amazing!

I'm also on Metformin along with my insulin until things get more wonky (which we expect, especially in 2nd Tri). This time around it is a whole new game with control since GD is treated so very differently than T2 while pregnant. I already feel so much more in control this time around.

Welcome and GL with your numbers! 1st tri is confusing so far. I went through insulin resistance, then had a bunch of low numbers and now I seem to be creeping up a bit, but I feel great with my pump that we'll keep on top of them!
