Fleas....sorry if I make you itch!

FML

We have no pets and moved into a place that apparently had a previous issue with fleas (which we found out the hard way) the place has been bombed and treated 3 times in the last month and once by us. We've been here a total of 6 days. For the last two days I've been wearing my almost 9 month old in a sling constantly because if I dare to put her down they jump on her and bite her. I tried grabbing one on her neck and it jumped into her ear.

Needless to say we flipped shit on the management company and demanded they reimburse us and compensate us for everything including a new couch and bed.

I'm mostly concerned about bringing them to our new place. I've been constantly laundering every linen, clothing and blanket and vacuuming close to 6 times a day. (It's bagless and I'm going to throw it away and get a new one for our new place.)

Does anyone know what else I can do? We will be getting a new bed and couch and the majority of the rest of our furniture is wooden. Im worried about it traveling on our clothes, linens, and blankets. I'm getting mixed reviews from my own research so thought I'd check here if anyone had experience with this. It's been an insanely stressful week.

  • There's a spray I get from my vet that you spray the baseboards and under things like beds and couches and them vacuum up. It kills fleas and keeps you protected from 6-8 months. It's like 20$ per can per 2000 sq ft. I forget what it's called, but most vets carry it around here.

You can also get diatemaceous earth and put it on the ground overnight and vacuum. I'd just do this all over the places and leave it as long as possible. You do not want to inhale this though. It's essentially ground up fossilized sea shells and the powder breaks up the bodies of most hard bodies insects. We use it for around the house and where our dog goes potty.

Another thing I'd do is stuff things like beds, drawers, pillows, couches, ect with dried lavender. I do this for the cat and dog beds. Fleas hate lavender. Also, when you vacuum do it and them empty into a separate bag, outside, and immediately throw in the outside trash. Leaving the bodies/larvae in your regular trash and vacuum will keep them spreading. I hope this helps! GL!

  • Thank you all!! I'm going to basically try everything. We don't have any pets so this is new territory for me. I had no clue they could even live on humans. It's so damn frustrating. In the past week we've seen/killed up to 10-12 fleas. Would you say that constitutes an infestation? It's sad to see that they target my youngest because she is crawling. Now that I realized that I won't even let her touch the ground. We move into a new place tomorrow so I'm formulating a game plan.
  • @jessicabcairns we are in NC so it's not really hot. It's been dreary. I was hoping that washing/drying everything would do the job
  • Diatamaceous earth or salt in any carpeting and any flooring you can put it on.  Leave it for at least 24hrs, 48 is better.  Then vacuum.

  • What do you guys think the likelihood of them being on our clothes and blankets are? I plan to wash everything and bag them in trash bags before bringing them to our new place and we will have a new bed and couch
