*Wednesday Update*
We met with the MFM early this morning and yesterday's ultrasound showed both babies cord flow returned to the normal range! Go steroids! Today's ultrasound shows baby A's cord flow has gone back to intermittently absent, but baby B's has stayed normal. The MFM said to expect only a few days of improvement from the steroids, but I'll take it! The heart rates and fluid levels look good. My cervix is shortening, but hopefully bed rest will help with that. My next ultrasound will be Friday, I will post another update then!





I went back to the MFM today. Baby A has not gotten any better, but also hasn't gotten worse. Unfortunately baby B is now showing signs of the same issue. Officially it is intermittent absent end diastolic flow in both girls. They admitted me to the hospital for steroid injections, which cause improvement in about 65% of cases. I will be getting daily ultrasounds and digital dopplers of bloodflow in the cords, hearts, and brains, and the regular heart rate Doppler every time the nurses change shifts. Tomorrow we will get a consult from a neonatologist, since they expect my girls will be coming pretty early.

At this point, the issue is serious but still not as serious as it could be. Typically with this condition it only deteriorates, so that is what they are watching for. At some point end diastolic flow will become completely absent, and then it will reverse. Once it reverses the only chance for survival is to deliver the babies. At 23 weeks 5 days we are on the very very early edge of viability, so hopefully the steroids will keep the girls healthy for many more weeks!

Things are generally pretty sucky right now, but I am trying to focus on the positive things. First, my husband was able to be with me at the MFM today because he had a long weekend. Second, his command is allowing him an emergency day off tomorrow so he can be here when the neonatologist comes to talk with us. I have a private room at the hospital, which I was not expecting. There is a sweet plastic owl outside my window. We have health insurance to pay for all of this craziness. The hospital has free wifi. My room has cable. That's it for now...hopefully I can find more silver linings within all of this as time goes on.

Oh god bless you, dh and the two baby girls. I think you being admitted is a plus, they can keep a very close look on the little ones, and do what's best. I pray everything picks up from here. Praying they can hang on for more weeks. Keep us updated!

Thinking of you guys!  Did they ever determine either way about the CMV?  The absent end diastolic flow definitely explains the growth restriction and I hope that the steroids will help their lungs mature and keep them in...at this point, every single day counts . Still waiting on the results of the blood work last week to determine whether or not the CMV is acute, recurring, or just an old infection. My MFM said she really doubts it is new based on the initial blood work, but she wanted to play it safe. We should know for sure in the next couple of days.

Words cannot express how thankful I am for all the support, well wishes, good vibes, positive thoughts and prayer from you ladies. Reading all of your responses made me choke up, realizing how lucky I am to have all of you cheering my girls on. As I was trying to explain to my husband yesterday how awesome you girls are and I shared some of the responses with him he got all choked up too. We are hanging in there, just trying to take it one day at a time and continuing to try and find something positive every day. Unfortunately my husband has to go out for one last training exercise (he will leave tomorrow afternoon and return Sunday night or Monday during the day) but luckily his command is being extremely accommodating. They already allowed him all of today off, and he has tomorrow morning as well (which is hopefully when the neonatologist will come to talk to us). They are also letting him leave training a day early, as everyone else has to be out until Tuesday. They are going to let him keep a cell phone in his pack so he can check in every night, which normally would not be allowed for this particular training exercise. I do have emergency contact numbers so if anything goes drastically wrong I can get him back to the hospital within a few hours. Also, we are very lucky that this will be his last training for awhile. So...that's my silver lining within the otherwise dark cloud for today!

Best of luck. Friend went into preterm labor while vacationing at 24w1d. She made it Two weeks on strict hospital bed rest. The girls are now 7 weeks old and are doing well.
