HELP! Breastfeeding and hives

I have been breastfeeding for 9 months and 3 weeks ago I started getting a terrible rash all over, but it is worst on my breasts.  It started as a small, diaper-like rash under one breast. I thought it was from the nursing pad being damp. Now it is like a very bad case of hives.  I've been in to the DR several times and they say its contact derm. but none of the treatments have worked, and I've switched to all fragrance free soaps, detergent, etc. I've stopped wearing jewelry. I've washed everything in my house. It still won't go away. I can't stand to breastfeed because the rash makes it so painful. I can't sleep. It is making me so miserable.

Has anyone ever heard of / had this happen? Can it be caused by breastfeeding? Any input is appreciated. I'm going back in to the Dermatologist AGAIN for more tests and am praying they can figure it out.

Re: HELP! Breastfeeding and hives

  • Is it thrush? Maybe you should see a lactation consultant to help instead of a regular doctor (or call one) since they are more specialized to help with breastfeeding issues. Good luck!
