Trouble TTC

Washed sperm

Long story but I had an IUI on Friday (false positive ovulation test, didnt want to risk it) however I never ovulated and I triggered yesterday so today and I am going in this morning for another IUI.

Was Friday's IUI a complete waste or could some of the sperm still be in there being it was O -3? I thought I heard washed sperm doesn't live as long.

Re: Washed sperm

  • It's theoretically possible that some may have survived. It doesn't sound like you're being properly monitored, though - no ultrasounds or blood work to confirm that you're close?

  • I too am surprised that your clinic didn't bother to do bloodwork to check your LH levels when you got a +OPK.  Also, how did they know you didn't ovulate?  If you're doing IUI without bloodwork or US, it seems like a waste of money.

I would say that the first IUI wouldn't matter anyway because the huge number of sperm they inject for every IUI would completely overwhelm any few that are left from the previous one.

  • I do get blood work and ultrasounds however my RE goes to my OBGYNs office one day every other week (in the town I live in as opposed to over an hour away so that's why I took advantage) and they send their blood work out to the lab, so you don't get results back until the next day. i went for my CD11 monitoring and we weren't expecting the follicle to be so big - but it was 18. My RE told me to take an ovulation test that day just in case. The OPK test was positive, so we did the IUI however when the blood work came back, I wasn't ovulating.

See, long story. Next time I will just go to the RE's office because this turned into more of a hassle than a convenience.
