Baby Sam is here!

Sam Joseph was born October 9 at 8:12 pm. 5lbs11oz and 19 inches. He was doing well until he began to aspirate on formula and showed signs of not having a gag reflex. He had to be transferred to another NICU about 2 hours away where they have a team of specialists related to clefts/feeding. He is also having some issues with his eye, and will be seeing someone for that as well. We are unsure what is related to his cleft and what isn't, but he does have a bilateral cleft of both the lip and palate. So hopefully he will have good care there, but it has been so, so hard being away from him! Haven't gotten too much in the way of updates, but he is stable and has been eating from a special bottle a bit, so we will take any progress we can get!

Congratulations!! I'm so sorry you have to be away from him. Just curious, did you know about his cleft palate & lip before he was born?

jesstellina, we did know about it before he was born, though we did not know the severity because he simply would not cooperate lol.

sharonstevens85 don't worry, your turn is next! Lena has been so excited about him, but it is really confusing for her because we have to explain why he is not home with us, but he isn't in my belly either. It makes me so sad when she asks "Where's Mommy's baby?". But she does love seeing him!
