I totally forgot to ask the doctor how long it takes to start working. For you ladies that are using it as well, could you tell me? Also, how effective is it compared to the actual birth control pills? Thank in advance for your answer.
I'm on it right now. My dr said it becomes effective after the first month. I believe it is 92% effective in preventing pregnancy.

My doctor said after 2-3 weeks, so i was conservative and took that as 3 weeks. It also becomes less affective when you start to wean, starting solids. My doctor told me to call back for the regular pill when i'm down to two nursing sessions. I don't anticipate that happening until a year, but some folks will try to do formula during the day while at work and breastfeeding in the morning and night, so i'm assuming that's what she meant.
I thought I read 48 hours after first pill. Before 48 hours use other protection. Rate 91-97%. Higher if you are EBF. It works by thickening the mucus so the sperm can't meet egg. It won't necessarily suppress ovulation, so that's why the rate isn't as high as estrogen based pills. If you miss a pill by 3 hours or more take pill, but use other birth control for 48 hours.
Well I don't plan I use it past two to three months because DH is getting a vasectomy and I am getting an IUD. I'm using th pill until I get the appointment because I'm on the waiting list. So wiening should not be an issue with the birth control.
