How do you keep your energy up during the day?

We've had a couple of very challenging nights this week with DS who is now 5months.  Up until now he's slept at least 10hrs usually only getting up once sometimes STTN. Twice this week we've had nights where he's been up every hour and it takes at least 1/2hr to get him back to bed. DH and I both got about 2 hrs sleep last night and it wasn't consecutive. We're both dying at work today and I almost nodded off during a meeting, it took all my strenght to stay awake. Clearly we have a long road of sleepless nights ahead of us, I don't really see anyway around that, so just looking for some ideas on how you all manage it? How do you keep your energy up when you're running on a sleep deficit?

Caffeine and going to bed insanely earlier. Like 8:30pm early.

Also taking turns with DH ... sleeping in shifts. Hang it there -- it does get better!

ETA: I no longer go to bed at 8:30. Now it's more like 10:30 with a 2 year old. See, there is improvement. Now if only she would stay in her bed and not go wandering the halls at night ...

  • I know how you feel. I fell asleep pumping in the bathroom at work today.
  • I've been having a lot of those days recently.  Last night I went to bed at 10:30, DD2 was up at 11:30, 12, 12:30-1:15, 2, and 4:30.  Even when DH got up once, I was still awake.

I can usually hold it together for one day when this happens, but last week I had 4 nights in a row of that while DH was traveling.  I was OK until after the 4th night.

Typically lots of water, tea/soda, breaks to walk around the floor (getting out of the building takes too long - I'm on the 35th floor), and if it gets really bad, chocolate.  Just a couple of Hershey kisses is sometimes enough to get me through the day.

Good luck!  Hopefully this ends soon for both of us!!
