Rate my girl name list

This is my list with favourite names. Please rate/comment/critique/tell me to scratch these names. When you're feeling up to it I would really appreciate fn - mn combinations and/or suggestions. This is all purely hypothetical, but I could use some help, since it seems that my list is only getting longer and longer!

I live in the Netherlands and would like a name that works both in English and in Dutch. Dutch pronunciation is different from English pronunciation, example: Amelia is pronounced Ah-may-lee-ya, Emilia is A-me-lee-ya, I'll include the Dutch pronunciation.

Josephine
Beatrice (it actually sounds most like the French pronunciation, so Bay-ah-treese)
Emilia
Odilia (O-dee-lee-ya)
Louise (is pronounced just like Louisa)
Helena (Hey-ley-nah)
Leonor
Mathilde (sounds like Matilda)
Madeleine
Olivia
Sybil
Wilhelmina
Sophie
Hadassah

  • These are my favorites from your list (in order).

    Sybil
    Odilia
    Beatrice
    Helena

The rest are nice, I'm not sure I like Hadassah though.

  • I think they're all nice names. My favorites are Odelia (I like this spelling better), Josephine, Sybil and Sophie. My least favorite are Emilia, Leonor and Wilhelmina. As the mother of a little Nathalie (French spelling, pronounced Natalie) I can tell you that everyone in the USA will pronounce Mathilde wrong.

  • Love the Dutch pronunciation of Beatrice! It allows for the NN Bay, which I think is darling. I like pretty much all the names on your list, but my favorites are Sybil, Beatrice, Sophie, Louise, and Josephine. Have you considered Anneke?

  • I like Emilia, Olivia, Sophie and I love Hadassah spelled Adassa I don't know if that changes the pronunciation but I've always liked that name.

  • @lica001: thanks, I was thinking mn for Mathilde and you've convinced me! - @Scarlett&Gatsby: I think Beatrice is my current frontrunner (I was pretty happy you liked it so much!). I know a few women named Anneke, one is my age and the others are all born in the 1940's/50's/60's so to me it's a very dated name along the lines of Patricia, Pamela and Deborah.
