Hot Chocolate Advice

I borrowed one of those beverage warmers that plugs in for hot chocolate for DS's party tomorrow.  I have a couple of questions...

1. Is hot chocolate basically the same as chocolate milk?

2. Could I just buy gallons of chocolate milk and pour it right into the warmer?

3. If you were going to offer a booze to put in it, what would it be?

Thanks

Re: Hot Chocolate Advice

  • It's a kid's party, but the parents (our friends and family) will be there too.

  • You could made a hot apple pie drink

  • If we don't have hot chocolate packets, I just make chocolate milk with white milk and syrup and warm it up in the microwave.  So, my answer is yes on the chocolate milk.

I think Baileys (they have a few flavors now) would be really good.  Vanilla vodka or whipped cream vodka would be good too.

@emkatrine Can you link?  I can't see the pic.

    Nevermind...now I can see it!

  • I think if the choices are chocolate milk as hot chocolate OR hot chocolate packets, I go with the chocolate milk.  I don't like hot chocolate packets, especially if they're made with water.  BARF.  I agree with maybe adding in more chocolate.

  • I think the booze in order would be Kahlua, Baileys, rum, or vodka.

I would use a recipe to make my own hot chocolate. There are a lot of simple ones out there where you add cocoa, sugar, and sometimes a splash of vanilla and pinch of salt to plain milk on the stove top. I don't know about chocolate milk, but that might work.

The chocolate milk that I was going to use is very thick.  I was just wondering because I have to make so many other things and wanted a short cut for this item.

LOL.  Don't worry, I WILL NOT use packets!

  • We put candy canes in a bottle of vodka overnight to flavor it for a hot chocolate bar. It was wonderful! I'm sure you can just use little peppermint candies, too.
  • Baileys, Frangelico, Kahlua and Chambord would all be delcious alcohol additions to hot chocolate.

  • I'd use Abuelita, but I'm not sure if it's available nationally. It's a Mexican chocolate bar with sugar and a bit of cinnamon that you melt in milk. So good.

As for alcohol...Kahlua, Bailey's, some sort of peppermint liqueur.

  • You can make hot chocolate easily with cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla, and milk. So much better than instant.
