Britax bsafe carseat question

We installed the base in my SUV, we strapped it in using the latches and tightened the straps as much as we could. Seems pretty snug and doesn't move much at the back of the base. However, the front of the base moves from side to side quite a bit (3-4inches or so). I am guessing this is normal, since the front of the base isn't secured to anything. We have not had it inspected yet, just wanted thoughts and opinions from fellow britax users :)

  • You gotta push down on the little gray bar, and pretty much feed the strap through as someone else pulls. Does that make sense? It took both of us to loosen and tighten the straps.

  • Or did you mean the straps on the front that is for strapping baby in? That's pretty easy. It's a metal button under the fabric at the front of the seat. Just push down and pull the harness and it will loosen up.

  • We had to install ours in the middle seat using the seat belt since DH is so tall and it wouldn't fit behind the drivers seat where the latch connectors are...the first time we tried the base moved like crazy, but the second time after really pressing it in and pulling the seatbelt tight (after making sure it's in the automatic lock position in the car) it seems like it only moves less than 1 inch side to side...we got it inspected and we passed, so maybe it just takes a couple tries to get it snug in your car? The inspector did say that because the middle seat is not as deep as the two side seats that in the middle the base will tend to move a little more in the front...

The part of the base that is snug against the back of the seat hardly moves at all. It's the other end that still moves side to side. We have ours in the very middle of my car, and behind the passenger seat in DHs truck, it does the same thing in both vehicles.

  • Are you on the fb group Car Seats For the Littles? Post your question there. They have a ton of techs and are really good about answering. Link is in the O13 sticky.
  • We had a little trouble installing at first but watched a great YouTube video and now it's super snug.
  • Ours did the same thing...we looked installation up on YouTube and now it doesn't move. Try that.

  • Ours is in the middle seat in a truck and it doesn't move at all. We had ours installed by a tech at a fire dept.

    We did the same thing.

  • You only need to check movement where the belt path is (from side to side) not front to back. It needs to be less than 1" movement. Leather seats can be tricky. Sometimes latch just doesn't cut it and you might get a tighter fit using the seat belt (that's what we had to do). • Ours did the same thing. The Police said we had done it fine even with the little movement on the front but Thanks for posting the question! Now I know where else to look to be extra sure!
  • When we installed it, the base was secure and didn't move much at all, but when we added the car seat, it moved a lot more like you're describing. I took it to the inspection station and the police officer tightened it up, but otherwise it was fine.

Unfortunately, it was hard to see what she was doing but she said you really have to put your body into the base to tighten it. It looked like she put her knee in the base, while simultaneously pulling on the strap to tighten. GL!

  • We just had our car seat checked yesterday. The back part is supposed to be super tight but the front part can move around a little bit. If you think about it, the front part is not really strapped down. I definetly suggest getting it inspected since they were very helpful.
