Back on cPAP

Our little girl was doing great! Started eating via bottle. She did get sick like a cold although they aren't sure if that's what is was. She is better now but they did have to put her on a nasal cannula to give her a little help. Got a phone call in the middle of the night that she kept having apnea spells that they had to stimulate her out of and her co2 was high. So she's back on cPAP. The phrase going home was being used yesterday, now I feel like it's back to the beginning. Thanks for reading I just needed to vent to people who get it.

Re: Back on cPAP

  • I'm sorry your daughter is back on CPAP. It's so hard when your baby is so close to coming home and something unexpected happens. Our DD was almost ready to come home and she had a brady during a feeding out of nowhere, which gave her 5 more days in the NICU. I hope your daughter is able to come off CPAP quickly! Ts & Ps!

  • Aw I'm sorry to hear! We had a similar setback although we weren't ready for home yet, but caused a probably two week delay. Hang in there--sending thoughts for a quick cpap stint!
  • :( I'm so sorry. It so often feels like two steps forward, three steps back. DD2 wasn't able to completely come off of CPAP until her third attempt -- both girls had nasty congestion as a result of reflux, etc -- and they kept thinking she was sick (every work-up came back negative, thankfully). But, she just tired out around Day 3 or 4 the first two times they tried to get her down to the low flow cannula.

T&Ps that your LO only needs this for a really, really brief time -- and that you're quickly back on the road to heading home!

  • I'm sorry. Setbacks are hard. It took Anna a couple tries to get off the CPAP as well. Sometimes bottle eating can wear them out as well. I hope she gets to feeling better soon!

  • Setbacks suck!!! I'm sorry you are going thru this. It will be short lived and it will be a distant memory soon enough!
  • Yep. We talked about coming home twice before actual discharge. One step forward, two steps back. We just kept telling ourselves we want him to be safe and he was in the best place he could be. And when he was ready, he'd be released. Your day will come! Hand in there.
