NYC

DH is going on a work trip to NYC, so I'm taking advantage and going along since I've never been. We'll have 2 full days before he has to work, and then I'm staying an additional 4 days since we have a free hotel and everything. I haven't decided if we should take W along or leave him with my parents. It seems like there are plenty of kid friendly activities?

Re: NYC

  • I agree with @harti09. I think you could definitely have a lot of fun with your little guy, but it would fun without him as well.

  • I would take him. But I know I'll be in the minority. ;)

  • If it's your first time in NYC, I would leave him with your parents if that's an option you're comfortable with. NYC can be tons of fun for kids, but it's also very crowded, there can be long lines, and in general it can be exhausting. There are also lots of things I would imagine you want to do or see that are not very toddler friendly.

I also think it depends when you're going. Random weekdays will be much less crowded and more laid back. Busy weekends can be very chaotic. If it's anywhere close to the holidays, you can barely move in some areas.

But I think you'll have fun either way!

  • Be sure to get Pizza at Lombardi's - the first pizzeria in the country - at the corner of Spring and Mott in Little Italy!  Or, go on Scott's Pizza Tour!

We took DS for 3 days when he was 11 months.  And we brought our big Jeep stroller.  On the subway.  ROOKIES. It was still okay though.

  • Thanks for all the advice. DH says he thinks I will be more fun if we take W along since I won't be missing him the whole time. I guess I just need to figure out what activities we want to do and see what is most feasible with a baby. Our hotel is right by Times Square, so at least we will be in close proximity to everything. If we do take DS, then I'll definitely be skipping the stroller and taking the carrier.
  • is there an option to take Babes along as well as someone to help, maybe your mom or a friend? Then you could have it both ways!

  • When I went to NYC for work, E came too (leaving him wasn't really an option, so we did it). He had a good time. There were so many dogs to look at and he liked the Washington Square Park, the giant Toys R Us, and the public library, and Central Park.

We didn't really plan on doing anything that wouldn't be kid appropriate  since I was working and didn't have time for the theatre or that kind of thing.
