Are your husbands getting tdap?

I had mine today, along with my flu shot. My OB is hysterical, and tried to get the nurse to give it to my husband, but they weren't allowed to.

Anyways, if they got the vaccine, where did they get it from? Primary care? My husband is awful and doesn't regularly go to the doctors. He was planning in getting his flu vaccine at target.

Re: Are your husbands getting tdap?

  • Yep, our local health dept has it and with insurance it was free, but I think the going rate around here for self-pay is $50ish. My DH hasn't been to a primary care doc in years, so this was the best option.

  • He can get the Tdap there as well. My husband is getting both the flu shot and the Tdap at Walgreens.
  • DH is going to get his at the Health Dept because it's free with insurance.

Mine got his at the start of this pregnancy; he actually had whooping cough a few years ago and we wanted to make absolutely certain neither of us got it again.

  • Mine got his tdap last year through primary care doc. Was offered as part of a routine physical.

  • Walgreen's, CVS, and the Health Department all offer them, though IIRC our health dept is only offering them to uninsured folks right now.

  • Mine went to his Primary Care Dr. To get his and while he was there he also got his physical done.
  • DH went to walgreens for both flu and tdap- no rx needed in VA
  • DH got it last year when we started TTC, from his primary care doc.

  • Yes, DH and I and our parents both got the flu and whooping cough vaccines. All of the doctors at my practice were pretty adamant about anyone who will be around the baby a lot getting it. We do not usually get flu shots but we did this year for baby. I got mine at my Dr. office but DH and our parents went to Walgreens and Rite Aid.

My DH got a slew of shots a few years ago before he took a business trip to South Africa.  I want to say it was 4-5 years ago?  He doesn't know for sure if Tdap was in that slew or not.  I would think though, he would probably need to get again anyways?  I'm going to have him call his GP.  My 13 y/o got the Tdap last year before he started 7th grade so he's good, he's scheduled for his flu shot on the 23rd.  Speaking of...he usually opts for the nasal because he HATES shots.  Does anyone know if it's ok with me being pregnant?  He will be POed if he has to get the shot!

I asked my OB today that very question. My son is almost 4, and I'd prefer he gets the nasal spray. He said it was absolutely fine, but to wait two weeks from the time I get it.

  • SO is going to the health department next week, and got his flu through his work this week. Neither of us are sure about our immunization records as we both rarely have gone to the doctor since we were children and frankly can't really remember. But any immunizations my MW recommend that we receive we will be getting. Better safe than sorry....

  • I guess I'm the only one who's husband, thinks it is not necessary.  I totally disagree, and it is stressing me out.
  • This might be common knowledge but we didn't know the TDAP shot is the tetanus shot. I sent my DH to get the shot a few months ago at our primary care physician. And he recieved the shot then realized that the tetanus shot he got last summer was the TDAP shot. Guess he is very protected now.
  • My SO already updated his shots in 2008 before we met -.- so he got to laugh at my with my sore arm and I was hoping he'd have to suffer with me... :( lol as long as he has the shot tho I guess it's ok... Haha
  • Yes! He went to Walgreens
  • Yes. He's rubbing elbows with millions of commuters on his way into London every day, so he is getting Tdap & flu jabs. We're all going to the GP for it.

It depends, you can get tetanus without pertussis. DH got a tetanus last year, but he got the TDaP a few weeks ago to make sure he had the pertussis too.

My OB didn't offer TDaP, so we both went to our PCP to get it. I wanted to make sure insurance covered it.

  • We/I had a difficult time finding the TDaP for my husband as our local Walgreens didn't offer it in our state and CVS was out of supply. His PCP also didn't offer it. We ended up sending him to a center called Passport Health which provided him with both the TDaP and the flu vaccine. Luckily he was willing to get it after I did the research!
  • My husband is getting it only because our midwife said he should.  He would feel guilty if he didn't at this point.  He is also getting the flu shot, which he has refused in the past.

  • I'm making my husband get the TDap and I was told that almost every insurance company will cover the cost if you go through your PCP. A urgent care or pharmacy (cvs/walgreens ect) won't cover it like a doctors office. He's whining about it but idc. He's not one that visits the dr either
