Hanging things over crib

Ok this may be stupid question but I'm asking anyways.  For those of you are planning on hanging something over the crib (name, canvas, etc.), what do you plan to hang it with to make sure it stays safely.  I have wooden letters with ribbon to hang by and my husband refusing to let me hang them because he said they will fall.

Re: Hanging things over crib

  • ha, I've actually been thinking about this because I want to hang the blanket that came with her bedding set on the wall above her crib, but I didn't feel comfortable just putting it up there with push-pins, in case they fell into the crib.  My DH & I talked about it & decided we're going to hang it w/ little nails, so I feel a lot better about that.

  • I've been trying to decide how to hang my wooden letters as well. I really want to use ribbon! I'm not doing anything until LO is here since we're team green though.

I have seen where people use command strips on the back but wouldn't that eventually lose its sticky?

I used to use those command strips in college. I'll tell you nothing ever fell. To the point where one year I left the mirror I bought on the door because I couldn't get it off.

ETA: I think the package also tells you how many pounds you can safely hang with it.
  • I've been thinking the same thing b/c I want to put frames over the crib.  I think I'm just going to end up putting them on the opposite wall just in case.

  • I never felt comfortable hanging anything within arms reach of the crib.  We did put DS1's name on the wall above the crib but it was a decal from etsy that is basically permanent stenciling.
  • I was planning to hang the letters with those little velcro sticky things. image

I'm making a hot air balloon mobile but we're going to hang it over the changing table instead of over the crib. LO will still be able to see it from the crib. I'm also painting an aeroplane with his name (which we haven't decided on yet!) written in the fumes and that's going to sit on the mantel piece rather than nailed to the wall as there will be glass in it.

This is what I used, but I chickened out and hung it over our diaper changing station. Previously, I used these to hang a white board on at my last clinic I worked at. Multiple people wrote on it all day long, and it never budged. I figured it was sturdy enough for that, it was sturdy enough for several little letters.

  • I hung a quilt in DDs nursery with push pins and it stayed for years (it was a lightweight quilt that was handmade). I've never had anything fall off the wall. We're hanging burlap buntings with their names on it over their cribs and we'll probably use push pins or small nails.

  • I hung up come empty frames over my little girl's crib. I used old fashioned nails and a picture hanging kit, but I think I'm going to reinforce them with command strips. I've used them on a bunch of things in my house and nothing ever falls. Be careful when you take the stuff down, though. I've accidentally pulled off paint down to the drywall before.. Stupid picture, I can't turn it the right way.

  • I only hung the fabric hangings over the crib!! I would be to nervous too!
  • I think after hearing this, I may bring up the command strips to my husband but not push it if he says no.  There is plenty of other wall space that I can hang the letters.

  • There are hooks you can screw in.  There are even ones that expand after they are in the wall so they are very secure.

I had a shower caddy in college that was stuck to the shower wall with command strips. Never budged even with heavy bottles of shampoo etc.
