Question about foster licensing

We have done all our stuff, got all our references, taken the classes, had our initial home study where he just made sure there were enough bedrooms and such. He rescheduled our second home study (I assume the one they interview you?) for 2 weeks from now. After that how long does it usually take until the licensing inspector comes out and after that how long until you are officially licensed?

I think there are three home visits in New Jersey. After the last visit with the caseworker, I think the Office of Licensing came out a couple of weeks later.

Thanks! That's about where we are. We are having our last visit in 2 weeks then the licensing person comes out. I just didn't know if after that you are officially licensed or if they say "ok inspection was good, now for 3 more months of paperwork."

I used to do foster home studies.  I was the only person from my agency who visited the home, there was no separate licensing person so I can't speak to that.  As for how long it takes a lot depends on you.  How fast you get your paperwork in and schedule your visits.  Another factor is the background checks.  Sometimes they come back quickly sometime it takes a while.  I found that it took longer around the holidays to get them back.

Idigdirt, after we passed our inspection from the Office of Licensing, I was told it may take a week to be licensed, but that my county (Middlesex) is a little backlogged so I should contact my SW after a week or two to see if it's official and to maybe push them a little.

So we are now official but it's been three weeks and still no paper license in the mail, not that that is necessary right now. We are on the list to receive calls so that's all that matters to us at this point!

Our license was an adoption license to begin with (we recently amended it to include foster), but our final home study visit/safety inspection was 12/1 and our home study was approved and complete by 1/14.  Hope this helps.  Good luck!

Next week is our last home visit then he has to get our folder or whatever all together (hopefully it will be quick) send it to the official licensing people and then hopefully we get an appointment soon. I am so bad at waiting.

Also I got the car seats, crib/bed and dresser should be here any day and the room is all set up just waiting for the crib and dresser. All chemicals are out of reach and safety latches on everything. I have clothes in every size. Now we just need to wait
