I've been fortunate not to have the run-in that many of you poor MoM's have, but I guess it was inevitable.
Yesterday, I had to get a few groceries and art supplies for my son's science fair backdrop and was cruising through looking for posterboard when she cornered me.
She first offered to help me find something (she was wearing the blue shirt/khaki uniform so that part sort of freaked me out, too, since no one ever offers to help, but I digress...)
and I replied, "oh, I'm just taking my time while my girls are being good"
and she gets this wild-eyed look in her eyes and says "OH MY GAWWWWD!!! ARE THOSE TWINS???"
Me: "yes, they are."
Crazy lady:" Are they identical??"
Me: "No, fraternal"
Crazy Lady: "ARE YOU SURE?!?!"
Me: "yes, it was very obvious they were separate from the first ultrasound and they look nothing alike"
Crazy lady: "DID YOU TAKE THOSE FERTILITY PILLS??" (and yes, she was pretty much shouting it and had totally broken into my personal space)
..Might I also add that another customer had walked up at this point obviously needing help, but she ignored them...
Me: "No,,, but WHY do you ask?!" giving her the stink eye, praying this was not going to go where it seemed to be..
CL: shocked look "Welll,, I guess I should have just asked you if they were natural"
Me: O_0
CL: "Well, you know I had 2 boys that were 20 months apart, so I know EXACTLY everything you've been through.."
Me: fake half-smile and awkward silence while looking for the hidden camera or the nearest way out of crazytown
CL: "ANNNND when my youngest was born, I had to go back for excructiating pains and bad bleeding and they found a mass with hair wrapped around it and said it was a twin that didn't make it... Since my husband has twins, so I'm sure that's why .."
Me: finally getting out of Dodge, "I'm sorry you went through that.... I just remembered I'm supposed to get Dog Food... "
Now I'm going to have to go to another store further away for stuff since this lady works there. I had to go back to a Publix last night to finish up what I didn't get in order to escape.
Lord, have mercy.
What irked me most about this convo is that DH and I *did* go through RE evals and two failed rounds of clomid, when we spontaneously got pg while on a little break after trying for over a year. These people have no clue what some women have to go through so much heartache, and they act like Clomid is Twin Candy or something.
Re: THE Crazy Walmart lady found me
"Are you sure they're not identical?" I would have lit into her. Yikes!
Videos of telling my family and husbands family that we are preggo...with twins!
I'll be honest, I'm not going to be that nice. My first two girls (10 and 11-1/2) are18 months apart and I am 1000% sure that this is not even going to be similar. One moved OUT of the crib at when the other one moved in to it. So.. to her comment I will probably respond with, "Really? So, you had two newborns both crying, helpless, and wanting fed at the exact same time? Oh, right.. one of yours was a toddler who ate normal meals and had hand-eye coordination. Sure you know EXACTLY what I am going through."
Grrrr.. my tolerance for ignorance has dropped through the floor in the last five years, I'm getting old and crotchety at my wise-old age of 37 ~grin~
You handled it well in my opinion, go you!
Good god. She must have been employee of the month...
I had a lady corner me at the grocery store asking similarly invasive questions & then yelled at me for not giving my girls rhyming names. Are you kidding me??
You are a classy lady for not socking the crazy lady. Walmart, you strike again!
I'm constantly asked if mine are ID - aside from the fact that one is a boy and one is a girl, they look NOTHING alike.
My sister and I are 11 months apart. My mom stayed with us to help for the first month after the babies were born and confirmed that having 2 babies close in age is NOTHING like having twins. You better believe I play that card anytime someone tells me they know exactly what it's like having twins b/c they have two close in age [;)]

I don't know how many times I have had people say, "I know what you are going through, I had 2 kids X amount of months apart"
DH's aunt is notorious for this. She's been taking "care" of (I use the word care in " because they are fully functional self sufficient teenagers (16, 18, 19) my DH's cousin's who lost their parents last year and the year before. She's says, I know what you are going through, its like I have triplets now.... NO YOU HAVE NO CLUE, THEY ARE TEENS! And then she talks about her adopted sons who were almost a year or so apart that she got at like 4 and 5 years old and how that's the same too. It takes a lot for me to not say something.
How have you avoided the crazy all this time?? Haha! You really found the mother-load of all crazies, so congrats!
