Baby Names

First names to go with...

My husband was very close to his grandpa who passed away before we met. His name was Harley. I've told my husband that I can't see it as a first name for our son but if we could find a first name that sounds good with it, I would consider Harley as a middle name...only problem is, I can't find any first names that I think sound good with it :(

Names we like/already agreed on as options-

Benjamin
Graham
Harrison
Henry

So my question to you ladies is do any of those sound good with that middle name? Or do you have any suggestions for first names to think about?

Thanks! :)

Re: First names to go with...

    I agree
  • His middle name was Carl, which I don't like, and his last name was definitely only a last name. I'm just having such a hard time finding something I like because I can't get past the Harley Davidson thing and the fact that Harley is becoming a popular girls name :(
  • I totally appreciate and like the family significance behind Harley (plus I love the name) so I wouldn't stress over the perfect flow, it's just a mn and fn with mn isn't said too much. Though to be honest some of yours sound just fine to me. I like sound of Benjamin Harley. Love the name Graham and even that doesn't sound horrible with Harley.

  • I like bejaminin Harley a lot. My sisters name is Harlie. (:
  • I like Benjamin Harley. I would stay away from Henry or Harrison, as the double H sound is a bit much.
  • Graham!

Would he be open to using Harlan instead of Harley? It might work better for flow for you.

FWIW, both my sons have family surnames for MNs and neither are first-namey, so I think g-pa's LN could be a viable MN option for you if you really dislike Harley. Then you could keep Harrison and Henry on your list, which don't work with Harley IMO, and baby could have g-pa's initials and last name for a MN, double the honor! :)

  • I don't like Henry Harley- the double ey sound at the end is a bit over the top.
The double h is ok IMO. Harrison Harley is cute. And Benjamin Harley, graham Harley is also find but I'm not a big fan of graham- it sounds old manish to me!
  • Thanks ladies! I'm showing my husband all the posts :)
  • Love Benjamin Harley!

This. MNs get used so infrequently IMO you're over thinking this. I agree the double H isn't great, but I don't see anything bad about Benjamin Harley or Graham Harley. And if you decided the name you most wanted to call your son was Harrison or Henry, I wouldn't side eye you for the double H. Heck, after seeing your birth announcement I would not even remember there was a double H. As I stop and think about it, I cannot remember the MN of any of my friend's kids, not even my best friend. Actually, I didn't know her when her son was born so I don't think I've ever heard or seen his MN.

  • Graham Harley is growing on me :) I want something that fits a baby but will look strong on a resume...if that makes any sense...haha! I think that might fit the bill :)
  • I like Benjamin Harley.

My sons name is Wyatt Harvey, which is similar to Wyatt Harley :). I wouldn't worry too much about the flow when using a family name. I know I very rarely say my sons first and middle name together. The only time we really did was when he was first born.
  • I love Graham
