Lots of news. My daughter's tongue tie surgery 3 weeks ago had such an impact. Besides having a speedy crawler, we have several new words emerge - hi, bye and dog. We have started a blended diet of real food and hoping to stop the elecare soon. She is also taking more by mouth - including textured purees and she loves using the talk tools z-vibes on her tongue.
Also, even more exciting is we have stopped overnight g-tube feedings. I am giving it two full weeks without a feed before I have the DME pick up the equipment. It has been nice to go to bed without setting up the pump. I will be so happy when we don't have to deal with a DME.
DD1 has really been on top of keeping track of things lately. She's paying attention to the things that change in her schedule each day (like after-school activities and the daily in-class rotations of PE, art and music) and talks about and anticipates them.
This morning she told me that she thought school should go for two days, then have two "home days" (weekend) and then two more school days, over and over. LOL. It was good to see her exploring and suggesting a new idea. In general, I see her making more suggestions -- yesterday I took the girls to the park and was talking with DD1 about which one to go to, and she suggested the park at the soccer fields where she plays, which we hadn't gone to before; and made a suggestion about where to shop for birthday presents for the twin brothers in her class who are having a party this weekend (Target, lol, a girl after my own heart!).
DS drew a face on construction paper human body out of shapes on an activity at school! I stuck it on the back of DS's special needs notebook!
DS also did an "All About Me Book." The part about "my favorite foods" was pretty accurate considering DS's ASD, there was a pizza, a loaf of bread and an apple. I decided to stick that small book in the notebook, too!
DS1 has refused to drink from anything but his bottle until recently. I found a sippy cup that transition to a demand type nipple then a more sippy shaped nipple. He refused it until I realized the nipple fit in his bottle. Now he happily drinks from his bottle with the sippy nipple on it!!!
I know it's still a bottle, but at least it's better for his mouth and teeth now. Baby steps. I tried just not giving him a bottle and it didn't work. He's stubborn and it was awful. So now we're trying small little changes in hopes of success and so far we have had huge success.
To my boys: I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
We are visiting family for the first time since ASD was tossed out there as a possibility for DS. Since we have been here he has played, as in interactive and imitative play...complete with giggles, with his cousins and has started spontaneously hugging and kissing relatives . He also is attempting to say kitty and I swear (it may be wishful thinking) that he tried to say "I love you" to me tonight. His face lit up when I played it off as him saying that...and he tried it again...so maybe. Oh and he said his first sentence since we got here: I wanna get down.
Still a ton of ASD signs with him...but this is some HUGE progress.
Late - but DD has done pretty well with ALL the changes lately and I keep telling her how proud I am of her considering the move, appointments/tests, more mommy work this past couple weeks, change in diet.
She is sleeping very well in her own bed in her own new room, doesn't try and come out at night and is ok when I leave her for nite nite now.
This week when I asked if she wanted to watch "dinosaurs," she said yes until she saw Daniel Lion on the screen, then said "Daniel Lion" FOLLOWED by "no dinosaurs" a second or two later - huge on phrases for her and the communication she is needing to head towards!!
