Dull pain on left side of uterus and SUPER PARANOID!

Hi all!  I am only 4W 5D along, got my hcg tests back and went from 193 to 645 in 2 days and got tested same time of day both days.  I have been having dull to sometimes random sharp pains where I believe to be my left ovary.  I've ALWAYS had pain on this ovary, and have had it checked out a few years ago, and came back clear.  I just assumed I could feel when I ovulate and maybe even just only ovulate from that side or more on that side.  I have  dull aches and pains there and I'm always crazy paranoid about ectopic pregnancy.  Overall I've been having ligament pain that even aches down my legs.  I've read this could be a cyst pain too.  I have an U/S scheduled but not for 11 days and I'm wigging out all the time.  Does the worry ever stop?? My doctor doesn't seem concerned but said she'd send me anyway to be safe than sorry.  Anyone else with this issue? Thoughts? Can my high hcg levels rule out ectopic?

  • I don't believe your beta can rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

    but pain is normal.

  • I've had lots of sharp pains/cramping on one side the last 2 weeks, it is completely normal. It's a bit early to be able to rule out an ectopic as they won't be able to see anything yet via ultrasound. Your ute is most likely prepping to stretch and grow so try not to worry too much yet.

  • I don't have any blood, and otherwise feel fine.  It comes and goes and is more annoying than anything.  On a scale of 1-10 I'd call it a 3 or 4.  Before I actually got pregnant I had really bad pain on that side in the same spot, so I'm thinking it is either cyst pain or just stretching.

  • I get pain on the left side too, it happened last pregnancy and made me think ectopic. Now it's happening again this pregnancy. I think it's just RLP in my case, because it hurts if I sneeze or cough or make sudden movements.

  • I agree with the girls. I think you are ok. I have all different pains, too, and it's hard not to wonder, but as long as there isn't blood, I would say you are ok. There's a lot going on down there right now and some of it just downright hurts! It's worth it, though. :) And to answer your question, the worry only stops when you tell it to. That can either be today or in 18 years, but it won't ever help anything.

Unless the pain becomes more serious, I would wait it out.  I'm not really sure about hcg levels indicating ectopic.. I think the most reliable way to find out is ultrasound.

You will probably experience a lot of little aches and pains throughout your pregnancy... if there's no blood and the pain is just dull, I would try to relax and see what the OB says.

And no... the worrying will never stop.  Welcome to motherhood.. :)

ETA:  If you are worried though, it never hurts to call your OB to ease your fears!!

depending on the timing of this, it could have been ovulation pains.
  • cysts are common and they do not affect pregnancy, and a corpus liteum cyst will generally go away its own later in first tri.

I will add, though, that during my entire first pregnancy I had gas pain that was sharp and in one specific point by my lower left hip. I also happened to have a large cyst on that side, and it wasn't until the cyst went away after first tri that I knew for sure the pain was gas pain.

  • Your beta isn't high enough yet to rule out ectopic. One sided, sharp stabbing pains that come one with sudden position change, sneezing, lifting etc. is round ligament pain and completely normal. If its going down your back/leg it could be sciatic nerve pain and stretching helps relieve it. If the pain is dull and not making you double over, then I think you are fine to wait till your next sono/appt. GL!
  • I've heard that ectopic pregnancies are extremely painful, not just a dull ache. But always better to be safe than sorry I think!
  • Dull cramps here and there are completely normal. AF type cramps, bleeding, and severe pains are not. If it's dull you are most likely fine and normal.
