NCDR Baby Wearers!

So, I'm so excited! I'm getting my very first woven soon. I'm trading my Infant KP for a Natibaby in a size 6! So, I'm doing some research on carries and practicing putting little man on my back and taking him off. So, what is everyone's favorite carry?

Re: NCDR Baby Wearers!

  • I like the double hammock back carry.
I watched one last night that was a double hammock wiggle prrof with a candy can chest belt. That one looks comfy. Regular double hammock looks comfy. Any good front or side carries for a very large baby?

  • I don't really know anything about the different type of carriers, but I have seen ring slings and was thinking of getting one so I can use it with DS from the time he's a newborn, right?

Are there any brands/WAHM products you recommend or a different type of carrier completely that you like better for a newborn?

    Thanks!

  • I had Ring Sling, but it wasn't for me. I'm more of mei tai or soft structured carrier person, but these are usually better for when they are a little older. I'm just now getting in woven wraps and I gotta say, I think they are the way to go!

  • I hated my Moby. Stretchy wraps are just no for me. I always felt like the baby was going to fall out and hit the floor as we walked and it never ever was tight enough.

This is my fear but my mom was really excited to make it so I figured I'd give it a shot. It does have a cotton piece that kind of reinforces the middle section so hopefully that will help.
Hopefully. If worse comes to wrose you'll need a woven later since stretchy wraps are only good till 15lbs.

I just spent a bunch of time googling various carries, and am quite intrigued with everything. I have a Moby and still use it just fine with my near 20lb almost 7 month old. Why is it only good up to 15? It claims up to 30 or 35 I thought.... Now I kinda want a new wrap.... They're all so expensive though... If we were going to shell out that kind of money we would probably get a beco or something so DH could use it. • I'm dumb.... Everything I just typed is in the middle of the quoted stuff.... Sorry.
  • Stretchy wraps aren't good for bigger babies since they sag more as they get bigger, which makes them unsafe since babies can fall out. Plus they don't distribute the weight well once they are bigger either. They start pulling weird. Wovens are usually best for this is you want to wrap. As for soft structured carriers I love Kinderpack. If you don't want to spend the 100-200$ on either of them then TheBabywearer is good or your local chapter of Babywearing International.

Crap.  Really?  I couldn't survive without my Moby but DS is already 20 lbs.  We haven't noticed any problems though.  Should I switch to a woven wrap?  Can someone tell me the idiots guide to buying and using one?

  • Paxbaby is a good place to start. I have my eye on a Girasol wrap there. The size depends on your size and what kinds of wraps. I like options and is fluffy so I get a size 6 or 7.
