crib to regular bed?

anyone move their toddler from the crib to a regular twin bed? and not use a toddler bed? thoughts?

Re: crib to regular bed?

  • I converted DD's crib (I guess to a toddler bed?) for a bit, but otherwise she went right to a twin bed. I had zero desire to waste money on another short term use bed.

  • Im thinking of doing the same. I converted my son's crib a while ago now into a day bed. He will not sleep in it but he will climb up on it and look at his books or play with his toys. I have been debating getting him a toddler bed too but think I will be wasting money. I may have to just get him a twin.
  • We did this recently. DD has slept in it a bit but we get lazy sometimes and he ends up in our bed. Overall, I am glad we purchased this instead of an interim toddler bed like pp's said, although, I think it all depends on your spacing, size of family, etc.

  • We went straight from crib to twin mattresses on the floor.  The deciding factor for us was being able to lay in the twin bed with them instead of bringing them into our bed when they cried/fussed at night.  We've had no issues.
  • Our toddler bed was a never used hand-me-down so both girls have/are using it, otherwise we would have gone straight to a twin. The toddler bed is not at all necessary IMO.

  • I just moved DS from his crib to a double bed this week. I have rails on both sides though, because he's still all over the place. He loves his new bed! To us, a toddler bed was a waste of $ and we decided on a double bed instead of twin size because we already had a double mattress.

  • We moved both of ours from crib to regular bed. DD1 did great - no transition issues. DD2 is having more trouble adjusting. It takes her longer to go to sleep and she's boycotting naps more.

  • We just moved our DD to a double bed as well.

I wasn't spending any more money on short term kid gear.

I also had a double bed already which needed to be moved to make way for new Baby. I like that I still have guest space if need be easy enough.

We didn't have an issue transitioning either. Settling down at night and napping was a bit rough for a day or two but I was just strict and she's fine now 3 weeks later.

We also didn't do well with a mattress on the floor. The open sides and being so low seemed to bother her. We got her headboard and footrails on and she was fine. I think she felt more contained as now there's only side she can really get off of (the other is against the wall).

  • We went to a twin with no issues.
  • We went from a crib to queen bed with no issues.
