Im Stumped!!!!

Hey ladies, Im having a little freak out moment which hasnt happened yet in motherhhood. So far I've just followed my instincts but I'm stuck here. DD has slept with me since birth and nurses to sleep. She usually goes to bed between 8-9 and will wake about 3-4 times between then at 1 or 2 am. For each of those wakings I nurse her back to sleep. Just a couple of days ago I brought her crib in our room and Ive set it up side car style on my side of the bed. My intention is to get her use to her crib mattress and eventually put the front back on it and have her in there fully. Next thing to tackle is getting her to start sleeping without nursing. Im so confused on how to do this! I need a balance between crying it out (I just dont see this working for us) and jsut letting her decide on her own when shes ready. The reason being is DH and I are going to Mexico in February and she is staying with my mom. Unless of course I cant get her to sleep on her own. Im considering leaving her with daddy at bedtime until she doesnt associate me (and my girls) with sleep. Was thinking of tackling the crib thing first than the nursing to sleep. Good plan? Suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Heres a pic of DD at her 7 month/family shoot.

  • I agree with PP, it seems like you've got LO on a habit that will be very hard to break.  The sooner the better though I guess.

  • No advice here, but I'm going through something worse. I just got a new job and yesterday was my first night shift. My DS did not sleep AT ALL from 1am till 9am. I came home at 9am, and he immediately lounged for the boobs. He nursed hungrily, then slept from 9:30am to 2:30pm. I'm seriously considering quitting now. Oh, why do we need money :: sigh::

Im reading the sleep lady now. Hoping that helps. Anyone know of anyone whos had success with this? Btw thanks so far ladies!
  • The only success I've ever had at breaking the association is night weaning.  If I were in your shoes I would wait until January and then just night wean for good.  Your LO will be old enough not to need to nurse through the night by then.  IME it only takes 2-3 days of no nursing cold turkey (with some crying it out) and they start to STTN.  I wouldn't do it with a baby this young though, they still need to nurse.
