We stuck to mushy or puréed fruits and veggies with a little breast milk if they need thinning. She's had avocado, pear, banana, sweet potato, butternut squash (soup actually), carrots and we're having apples tonight. We only do solids once or twice a day (3 times upset her tummy) and only as much as she will open her mouth for.
Breastmilk (he is 6 months in 9 days). Once he is sitting up a little better, we will introduce a few solids with BLW. Plan to start with sweet potato, avocado, banana, etc.

Nov siggy challenge: animals eating Thanksgiving food
At 6 months old she was nursing 6-7 times a day (mostly 6 times a day) and getting a little puree or oatmeal at dinner. I don't even know how much, but it was a very small amount- maybe a tablespoon or two? She wasn't real interested at first, so we introduced solids slowly and didn't do much at a time.
PCOS with long, irregular cycles First round of Clomid in May 2012= BFP #1, DD born January 2013 BFP #2 in January 2014, DS born September 2014
Breastfeeding on demand (still pretty much every 2hrs day and night now that teething is in full swing).
She is now 7months and BLW. She has had most veggies (steamed) such as sweet potato, squash, zucchini, bell peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, mushrooms and avocado. She's had pasta, rice and some breads. This weekend we had some fancy dinners out and she tried Miso soup, shrimp, mushroom, zucchini, rice, chicken, and steak at a Janpanese place at another place she had ravioli and some red peppers and bok choy with a spicy flavor. She loved it all...she spent over 20min chewing down her slice of steak and was in heaven the whole time!
We have yet to give any fruits or sweet foods. We figure we will give those last as she isn't missing them and we want her to love her veggies and be open to all foods before she finds the sweet stuff.
I typically nurse her about an hour before she has supper with us, and she still wants to nurse at her regular time after. We cloth diaper so I can see exactly what she has eaten based on what comes out and she does indeed eat a good amount!
Ack! I just posted a similar topic. LO just started BLW a few weeks ago. Right now, she's had sweet potatoes, banana, carrots, squash, apples and pears. Last night she ate a whole pear and then 1/3 of a banana! I can't believe how much she's eating and am wondering if I'm letting her eat too much... She's still getting plenty of BM, though and only eats solids in the evening.
DD is 6 months and 2 weeks and has had rice cereal and all the stage 1 foods except prunes (eeew). She is eating baby food after her bottle at day care and on weekends she has 1 stage 1 each day. Day care is having trouble getting her to finish a bottle (she's easily distracted lately) so she isn't allowed any baby food until after they get some formula in her. She will start stage 2 foods in a couple weeks. She loves whatever she's tried so far.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around BLW, especially the idea of giving a 7 month old steak! Does she really eat it or just gnaw on the food?
DS2 gets 3 (5 oz.) bottles at daycare and nurses 4 times on top of that. He just went up to two solid meals, but they are not huge or anything. He usually has 1-2 oz. applesauce with a little oatmeal in the morning and then whatever we have around for the evening (last night we ha cobb salads, so he had about 1/4 of an avocado), the night before he had some butternut squash "fries," etc.

Both. She definately swallows a good portion of what she chews on. The diapers tell all (chunks of food come out), most purees go through a baby undigested as well...it just comes out pureed same as it goes in. With BLW chunks go in, chunks come out lol.
Anyways...the steak she mainly sucked dry and chomped on...she doesn't have any teeth yet so it takes a good deal of time to chew up a steak. She loved it though. Anything softer than a steak she chews and swallows. At times she just sucks, licks and gums the food up. Depends on her mood, how hungry she is and how yummy that particular food is in the moment. Thats pretty much the point of BLW...the babies decide if and how much they want to eat at any given time.
Tonight she had spaghetti with tomato sauce with garlic and herbs and grilled eggplant. She licked the sauce off all the pasta, then ate a good amount of pasta and she loved the eggplant and ate it, leaving behind the skin.
It is hard to wrap your head around at first. But it is amazing how fast they go with it...they just know what to do. You can try youtubing some videos of BLW. There are a lot of home videos.
We love how she is actively involved in our meals rather than being spoon fed before or after we eat. She eats for a good 20-30min and she is content to sit and watch us when she is done until we finish. A skill we want to encourage!
LO is not a big eater, hasn't loved eating after starting the first month in the NICU. He takes 20 oz of formula per day (we compensate by using 27 calorie as directed) and eats one 2 oz serving of solids. Carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, spinach, sweet peas. Fortunately, his eating has not hindered growth, since 2 months old he has held fast to 30-35% weight and between 50-60% height.
Our LO is 6 mo. and about 2 weeks. He typically has some cereal in the morning and has had a good majority of the stage #1 foods (sweet potatoes, squash, apples, bananas, carrots and green beans - although we're still trying on that last one as he's not a fan yet). We were only doing twice a day for solids, but Doc. recommended three times a day if he seems interested enough. He absolutely is, so this week we purchased some of the stage #2 foods since he's sitting up pretty well and is constantly hungry. All of this along with probably about 28-30 oz. pumped BM too.

Thanks for your detailed amounts! We are going to start fruits this week, we have only had cereal, squash, sweet potato and carrots so far! We are taking about 24-26oz of formula a day too. My daughter way born on 4/6/13 so our babies are only 3 days apart
Nice to compare with someone who has a baby so close in age.
4/4/13 here! We have been adding a morning fruits meal lately as well but only get it about 4 days per week. BTW, make sure you mix it up with the veggies, too much sweet potato and carrots will turn LO's skin orange like an oompa loompa!
At 6 months, my daughter is eating cereal and a little applesauce in the morning, 2 veggies and a fruit for lunch, yogurt for a snack and 2 veggies (or 1 veggie and 1 meat) and a fruit for dinner. She is also still on 32-28 oz of formula a day. She is a huge eater but is high energy. She eats carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, peas, string beans, broccoli, zucchini, apples, pears, mangos, pumpkin, blueberries, strawberries, bananas, etc. She also eats pureed meats. My doctor says she can have anything except honey and milk before a year old. So I let her try everything as long as its pureed and not a choking hazard.
Our son is 6 months old and we have been giving him bits of food for a couple months now. We aren't doing BLW per say. I do my own baby food so it is a lot thicker and chunkier than store bought baby food. We have given him chunks of some foods and he has no problem chewing (gumming them to smitherines). I love to watch him chew his food.
There is not a whole lot he has not tried and I have yet to find anything he does NOT like. His pediatrician said the only thing he should not have is fried foods.
Can someone explain the sitting up thing with eating solids? DS can sit in a high chair bit not unassisted on the floor...
Our LO was 4 months old when we started feeding solids. He could sit in a highchair just fine but still needed support sitting on the floor. He was not flopping over but needed some help sitting. I say go a head and try giving him some solids. We started mainly because in the evenings DS would want to nurse almost constantly and still be fussy. As soon as I introduced solids in the evening the fussiness ended. When we started he only ate maybe 2 -3 small spoonful. Now at 6 months he is eating about 1/4 cup each of vegetable and fruit.
Do your babies sleep better now that they are on solids?
No, not here. We've been on solids for six days now and he is still having his one MOTN wakeup. He used to STTN but not anymore. Not complaining too much about one wakeup though!
