I'm kinda freaking out- I'm almost 6 weeks and I've been getting chills off and on from the beginning. No fever or flu symptoms, just cold chills. This never happened with my first baby. Is this a bad sign? Anyone experienced this before?
Actually, thats funny, I have been too! I'm 6 weeks and its been the last week and today mainly, I just randomly get so cold!
It's possible we need some more iron. Baby is absorbing a lot of nutrients and it can cause anemia. I was already a little anemic before, so it makes a lot of sense to me. Definitely ask your doc
I experience this when I'm overly tired. I'm always covered with a blanket at the end of night and curled up on the couch.

I have been freezing but just attributed it to having just come back from the Bahamas and the chilly fall/winter air in Calgary... I thought you were supposed to be warm during pregnancy. Here's hoping that comes later... I just had my prenatal bloodwork done and will get the results middle of next week. I'll let you know if it's attributed to low iron but because i've been taking prenatal vitamins, I'm not sure this is why. I'm just over 5 weeks so pretty close with your baby development too
Too funny, I've been feeling the same way! Always seem to be cold, but I definitely prefer it to being hot and sweaty. I find a little exercise or a warm meal/snack sometimes helps.
I would guess hormones. After I had DD, I had a night where I was shivering uncontrollably. I could not get warm. It was pretty scary. We called the doc and they said it was the big change in hormones post delivery. I would imagine it would be similar when you are first pregnant.
and I just thought it was because of the weather change...haha well that explains the random bruises as well. I have never been the one to bruise easily, but low iron would explain that right?
Quick question-which prenatal vitamins are you mamas taking. My OB said i'd be better off getting something over the counter rather than pay a co-pay for a prescription one, but there are SOO many choices and she didn't specify one or even tell me what to look for...
I have heard that if you can get ones that you take one in the morning one in the night (my prescription one is like that, but I know there are OTC ones too) then you get the most out of it because some of the vitamins overpower others and they don't absorb right.
For people who need more iron, sometimes doctors suggest you take an extra iron pill on top of the prenatal, so you'd need to check with them about that
I'm a freezebaby most of the time, but now I'm alternating between what I'd call hot flashes & being freezing.
This is me too. I was just dropping my nephew off at football practice and I had to turn my a/c I was so hot-its like 60 degrees. Now I am frozen cuddled up under my blanket.
I got my prenatals at the Community Health Food store- they are "New Chapter" brand- perfect prenatal multivitamin. They were the most recommended because they are highly fermented for better absorption, made with organic vegetables & herbs. You are supposed to take 1 three times a day. I'm not crazy into organic, vegan, gluten free... etc, but try to avoid processed and go for real food instead.
Update after prenatal blood work: saw my doctor Wednesday and all my blood work came back good- no deficiencies! Not even low iron so in my case it must just be the hormones... Still cold but probably not much more than usual now. Hope this helps @babyburks09. If you suspect you are low in iron, I would say definitely bring it up with your doctor- that's what they are there for
I bounce between burning up and freezing cold. Most the time cold though. Thank goodness sweater weather is right around the corner in Michigan and that I have blankets in every room of the house.
