Every morning when I leave for work DH and DD are still sleeping. I was about to call DH and ask him how the morning went: Did she finish her bottle? Was she cranky? Did you find the outfit I laid out for her? Then I realized, I've sorta stopped asking about him and how he's doing. Yes, we're parents now and our lives revolve around our baby, but I need to remember to ask about him too.

This made me want to get to know the rest of you better too. So who wants to participate in a random GTKY? It's mostly non-baby related but of course our lives do now revolve around little ones so all answers are welcome.  Bonus points for PIP!

1. What part of pop culture do you wish would just go away? anything "bump watch" related
2. What was your most embarrassing hair style? in 8th grade I got bangs but was too lazy to fix them. I had a natural part that just made the bangs do a little keyhole in my forehead every day. 
3. In what way are your parents out of date? actually my parents are pretty up to date. My dad got a smart phone before me and then bought me one, otherwise I'd still be using my $20 flip phone. 
4. When was the last time you went barefoot in public? can't even remember. Probably the last time I was at a beach!
5. What small business would you like to start? counseling practice specializing in perinatal bereavement. 
6. Is there such a thing as too much chocolate? in most forms, no. But sometimes chocolate is put where it isn't meant to be. ex: chocolate wine. gross. 
7. When was the last time you were lost? geographically? sometime before google maps was invented. metaphorically? every day
8. What slang word or phrase do you love to use? from my TX roots: y'all, fixin' to, and calling everyone ma'am. 
9. What is the nicest room in your house? maybe our bedroom? it's the only room that doesn't look like buy buy baby threw up in it since we only put the pnp in there at night. 
10. What was your favorite TV show growing up? Full House and Saved By the Bell

Here are my answers too:

1. What part of pop culture do you wish would just go away? Facebook pictures of food. Maybe it's just me but unless it's super fancy and you never want to forget it, why would anybody take a picture of their soggy oatmeal?

2. What was your most embarrassing hair style? I had the DJ Tanner flower blossom bangs, eeek!

3. In what way are your parents out of date? My mother doesn't do any online shopping but she has an iPhone and is addicted to Facebook.

4. When was the last time you went barefoot in public? Probably when my sandal strap broke while pregnant, so I just took them off and carried them with me so people wouldn't question my barefeet.

5. What small business would you like to start? DH and I used to talk about a bike shop, where you can get repairs done, get your first bike, or any kind of gear you might need while out on a ride. He does the tune ups on our bikes, and he really enjoys getting his hands dirty. Unfortunately, neither of us has been out on our bikes in a long time so that idea may be long gone.

6. Is there such a thing as too much chocolate? Sure, everything within reason for me.

7. When was the last time you were lost? DH and I were doing some navigating with a map and a compass at a nearby state park a few years ago and I totally got us lost. Some trails that weren't trails got us confused on the map and we ending up in the brush just trying to head in a straight line and hope that eventually we made our way out. We finally did after an hour of bush-whacking, bug bites, and rain.

8. What slang word or phrase do you love to use? I use "Totally" and "Awesome" way more than I should.

9. What is the nicest room in your house? Definitely the baby's room. It's the only room that has a real decor, every other room is just thrown together.

10. What was your favorite TV show growing up? I loved Fresh Prince!

Oh, agreed for #1!  And I forgot I also use y'all a lot.  It sneaks in when you least expect it.

When was the last time you were lost?  About 7 years ago, I had a job interview outside of Chicago, and the mapquest I printed wasn't clear about one of the turn offs, I got insanely lost and called DH (boyfriend at the time) to help.  He provides directions in north, south, east, west and that is NOT how my brain works.  I was screaming and crying, "JUST TELL ME TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT!"

9. What is the nicest room in your house?   Our kitchen

10. What was your favorite TV show growing up?   Perfect Strangers...remember Balki?  Anyone?

1. What part of pop culture do you wish would just go away? The pressure on young girls to grow up too fast, be sexy, etc.... Also, Miley Cyrus and Gangnam Style
2. What was your most embarrassing hair style? As a child of the 80's/ 90's I fear there are too many to list. But we'll go with the awful perm I had at about 9 years old, complete with huge poofy bangs
3. In what way are your parents out of date? Trying to Skype with my dad is always hilarious. He also has a dinosaur of a cell phone, and refuses to get a Facebook acct.
4. When was the last time you went barefoot in public? At church this past Sunday. Although technically I am barefoot in public right now, as my shoes are off under my desk. But I put them back on if I have to get up and walk around the office.
5. What small business would you like to start? A food truck and/ or Italian specialty store- but everything sold would be made locally. Fresh pasta, sauces, salumi, etc.
6. Is there such a thing as too much chocolate? Yes. I enjoy chocolate, but not so much chocolate cake (lava cake being the exception) or chocolate ice cream. Give me a reese's or good Swiss chocolate any day though. 
7. When was the last time you were lost? Can't remember! I was blessed with a good sense of direction, and now w/ GPS, it's almost impossible to get lost.
8. What slang word or phrase do you love to use? I've been known to use the words "sweet," "word," and "totally" WAY too often! 
9. What is the nicest room in your house? The nursery! Every other room is a mish mash. We rent, so no big reno's any time soon.

Miley Cyrus and Twerking. I saw her on the Today Show yesterday and the Media is doing exactly what she wanted them to do, 1 month later everyone is still talking about it. She has a great voice, she's just expressing herself in ways most wouldn't. She's 20 year old. I can only imagine if my life was publicized at 20.

 2. What was your most embarrassing hair style?

I don't know if I had an embarrassing hair style, my Mom is a cosmetologist and I always kept up with the trends and nothing ever long.

 3. In what way are your parents out of date?

My Parents are much more technically savvy than I am. I can't do much on a computer, I am simple and they can create all kinds of things that I couldn't even imagine creating.

 

 4. When was the last time you went barefoot in public?

I would say the Beach, it's hard to walk in the sand with sandals and then you want all the sand off your feet until you get to the car. But being barefoot also doesn't bother me.

 5. What small business would you like to start?

Bakery, most definitely. I love to bake and do it for fun. I went to school to be a pastry chef but would never do it for a living.

 6. Is there such a thing as too much chocolate?

I don't think it's possible to have too much chocolate EVER.

With a smart phone and google maps I have no idea when the last time I was lost?

Cray Cray, I do call everyone Ma'am and I was born and raised in California for 26 years and that is not typical. One thing I picked up living in Texas.

All are pretty equal and I can not take any credit. All our decorating and ideas are DH and my MIL. I just say what I would like and they create it.

In what way are they not is a better question.  My father is from rural Ireland- he emigrated in his 20s- and he's not in touch with most things- he doesn't watch television, doesn't see movies, thought me wearing a bikini to the beach in high school was akin to prostitution...oy!

Probably the beach this summer.

A bookstore/coffee shop.  Or my own lobbying firm.

No.  Absolutely not.

 I'll play, only because for once I am online at home which never happens and I can actually use a keyboard, not the iPad at work which is a PITA!

1. What part of pop culture do you wish would just go away?  the ridiculously stupid names that celebrities give their kids.  North West.

2. What was your most embarrassing hair style?  I was a senior in high school, two months before my sister's wedding, the hairdresser chopped the top of my hair off (and it was the early 1990s where long curly hair with big bangs were in). It looked horrible. I bawled all day. It took ages to grow out and I looked like a dork. My escort for the wedding was BIL's brother, who happened to be a starving actor in Hollywood back then.

3. In what way are your parents out of date?  They use basic cable. I mean BASIC. Like 12 channels. They have cable just so the picture is clear...but it isn't cable!

When was the last time you went barefoot in public?  Last week.  I stomped out of my house to the car parked on the street in front of my house and gave this video back to this religious group who likes to go door to door to solicit people. I won't name names here. I was fuming. I told them we were not interested and not to come back!

5. What small business would you like to start?  My own bakery-cafe

7. When was the last time you were lost?  That's a toughie. I'm really good with maps. I understand them pretty well and was able to travel within many European cities.  I guess I would have to say it was when we were in Boston three years ago..we needed to head to the Cape and we missed our exit so we ended up going back towards the city! Every exit we tried to get off caused us to go around in circles.  The GPS on my Blackberry (not a smartphone back then) saved us.
