So when i find a person my only choices are 1. add 2. message 3. view friends. 

Am I missing something?  is the only way I can see anything about this person to add them or message them?

When you click 'add', it sends them a request to approve you as a friend.  You can also send them a message to let them know who you are in case they don't recognize you.

If you have your profile private, only people who you have added as friends (and they have confirmed) can see you page.

Yes, unless they have it set for non-friends to be allowed to view their profile.  If that's the case, then you will be able to click on their name.

So I guess everyone I've tried to view has a private profile? hmmmm

Some people have it set so that only people in their network can see them.  So, if you live in Miami and are in the Miami network, you can see the profiles of people who are also in the Miami network without being their friend.

But this is the reason that I like Facebook- I can prevent just anyone from seeing my profile.
