I'm at my exes moms house (it's complicated don't ask) she would be PISSED if she found out I'm expecting. she just poured me a pina colada. I've been pretending to sip it, but if I HAD to have a sip or two before I could sneak ppouring it out would hurt? gahhhhhh

I had to do the same thing with champagne at my brother's wedding. My sister got little bottles for the bridal party for before the ceremony I took a couple sips then poured it down the sink when I got the chance. I say it won't hurt. But you could tell her you have diarrhea lol because coconut is NOT what you want when you have stomach issues.

Can always pull the antibiotics card but really a sip of two is ok. My friends ob allowed her a glass of wine or bottle of beer once per week. I don't necessarily agree with that but shows some drs say it won't cause problems.

I wouldn't.  There are some very short developmental stages during early pregnancy in which small amounts of alcohol can affect the baby.  I'm not saying that people don't do it, but it's not worth the risk to me.

A sip or 2 won't hurt. I was drinking bellinis in Venice before I found out and my jelly bean is just fine.

I guess my point is, if you are worried about her being pissed, I would just tell her now rather than pretending to drink with her then having her find out later. Assuming that would piss her off more.

It's easier for others to say "just go ahead and tell her" only you know your situation and if it doesn't feel comfortable I would wait. Besides depending on how many piña coladas she had it really may be the wrong kind of reaction. Maybe a sip or two.. Or like others have said I would saying you aren't feeling like drinking. Blame it in your stomach or that you have a headache.

IDK, maybe it's just me and I'm not there so I don't know what you two are doing during your visit but she must not have her eyes on you the entire time or occupying each other's full attention if you're able to post here, read replies, and reply in return. Dump a bit out when she's not looking and tell her you don't want another one because the first one gave you a headache. When she finds out later you're pg, and if she actually figures out you would have been pg when you were there today, feign forgetfulness or just tell her you dumped it out.

Do what you have to but do NOT drink the alcohol. You have a growing baby that takes in what you do. Flame away but I do not agree with the above posters that say have a little. Don't care what people did in the old days or what they do in different cultures. In the future, I agree with "im on meds" excuse.

Oh it's fine as long as you're not gonna drink the whole thing! Give me a break women drank and smoke there whole pregnancy back in the day and my mother came out fine! I had two sips of beer at my dads bday party two weeks ago because it was a new beer from our local brewery and I wanted to try it!

When someone asks advice about drinking during pregnancy to a bunch of Internet strangers, some are going to be adamantly against it. I don't think that's shocking and I'm actually really surprised that many more haven't spoken up. They also didn't use car seats "back in the day" but I wouldn't expect anyone to give you a break on that. I'm not saying a few sips of alcohol is going to do any harm, but if there are any risks I can avoid during pregnancy, you better believe I'm going to. If you want to roll your eyes at that, fine by me!

it's a personal choice my.midwife said is fine. in the third trimester I have one glass of wine a week, with food and slowly. moderation.

Women use to not get prenatal care as well. Babies were born all the time. I'm pretty sure drinking is widely accepted as a negative pregnancy behavior. I'm no expert, but I am also fairly certain that your child can get FAS in the 3rd trimester......

I am strongly in the no alcohol during pregnancy camp. I don't know what the statistics are about the side effects on the baby. But even if it was like one in a hundred babies whose mothers had a drink while pregnant had negative side effects I wouldn't take that gamble. Baby consumes whatever you do. That's why we have restrictions on drugs, alcohol, tobacco...I don't care if my Dr said it was okay I'm not giving alcohol to my baby. Not to mention that the babies metabolism is a lot slower so it's blood alcohol level is higher than what yours would be.

And the "woman used to do it all the time" argument is bull. We used to drink and smoke while pregnant. We used to ride in the car holding our kids. We used to leave them in the car to run in for milk or when they were older send them to the store by themselves. The world is a different place. When you know better you do better.

Can you show where you got this from? The research I've done has shown no ill effects on the fetus from light drinking (less than one drink/day, or a few a week). Here's another study: https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/730790
