I have given him it, but I try to keep it a once in a blue moon type of thing because of the mercury. We usually buy the albacore, but I know he had a tuna sandwich at daycare the other day, I'm pretty sure they were using the cheap stuff. He likes it, but he'll eat anything
Only once and just a small amount. We live in a fishing town where we can get fish right off the boat so we have not had the need for canned tuna much. I think the chunk light tuna is lower in mercury.
Yeah, I forgot that little tidbit from pregnancy days. I'll have to remind DH, he eats a ton of tuna, and has been staying home with DS a couple days a week, so I'm sure he will be getting it a little more often. I'll look for that wild planet brand too.
Albacore has a higher mercury content. Go for light. Or canned salmon from Alaska, which is usually sustainably caught and low in mercury. There is a company out there called Wild Planet, which sustainably catches their seafood and is mostly low in mercury. I've bought canned products from them.
S loves tuna salad. I have also made little salmon cakes as well.
I've been looking for a good recipe for salmon cakes! Please share!
I've only given tuna once. It was canned light tuna packed in water (bumblebee or starkist?) It wasn't a hit. But I'll probably try again soon.
