Boy Names

What do you all think about the name Beckham for a boy? We have heard from a lot of people that they think of it as a last name, but so are a lot of other names!

I also really like Declan, but can't get DH on board with it!

Let me know your opinions!

Re: Boy Names

  • I think of it as LN (not in a good or bad way) but simply because of the soccer player. I don't think it's horrible by any means and if you love it go for it!

  • I can see it as a first name. I named my mom's cat Beckham.

Add me to this category too.  But, Beckett is a nice alternative that gives the same feel as Beckham without the connection

  • I'd assume you were huge soccer fans. Not a fan of the name personally, but if you really love it then use it.

  • Not going to lie, if David Beckham is who comes to mind immediately, count me in mmmm ;) kidding, kind of!

I did bring up Beckett, but DH was not a fan of that at all. Thanks for the suggestion though!
  • I like Declan.
  • I like Declan. It was in the running for us but seeing how popular it is here, I've changed my mind  :-< I also think Beckett would work alot better unless you planned on his full name being Beckham and calling him Beck.

  • Beckham takes me right to David Beckham. I want to like the NN Beck on a guy (and I think I do), but my first association is Glen Beck.

  • I really like Beckham.  My cousin has a son Declan and his brother is Keegan.  Maybe an option for you?

  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone, unfortunately Declan is out because DH hates it. Bennett is definitely out, because I hate the name Ben and it is a guarantee that his NN would be Ben. Also, DH's stepdad is Ben and I HATE him and don't want to be reminded of him every time I say my child's name. DH can't get onboard with Beckett, because it is some sports magazine or something, weird, I know.

I also don't get the whole David Beckham association. There are a ton of celebrity names that are popular right now and I have yet to see people bashing them! For example Gray, really? And the whole kardashian reference was completely ridiculous, sorry. Beckham is an actual FN and we have found it in several baby name books, which is where we got it from. Like many, we also thought of the Beckhams, but I am quite surprised that it is a complete deal breaker for people! Ohhhh well.
  • My DS1 is Beckham! :)

It was tough for us to make the final decision for his name b/c of the soccer reference, which you will get (only from younger generations though). However, I LOVE it! It's unique without being made-up or difficult to spell/pronounce. I'm sure there are some people that just don't "get it" and don't like it, but so many people have complimented us on it. He's the only Beckham I know and it totally suits him. Good luck! :)

  • I like the name my only concern would be a nn beck that to me is a little girly as it reminds my of Rebecca.
But if that doesn't worry you- go for it! It has a nice sound to it.
  • Not a fan at all.
