Who's using pacifiers?

Who's using them in combination with BFing? We haven't yet (DD is 2w2d), but are talking about it. I read conflicting things about when/if to introduce them.

She's a great eater, no supply issues. Just looking for something to help her soothe at bedtime.

We use the soothie kind which is the same as the hospital. It definitely helps calm her down. It took a while for her to be able to keep if in her mouth and she still pops if out sometimes big it's a life saver.

I am using them. Its been helpful for me while BFing because he won't always latch on so I give him the paci for a minute and then swap it for the boob. I also use it a lot during diaper changes because he flails around so much. It definitely helps sooth him and if he doesn't want it he spits it out.

We are. DS is 3w3d, I ebf, he's not completely dependent on it, but it helps when he's only wanting to comfort suck to go to sleep.

We use the soothies as well.

Ebf and introduced a soothie paci at day 5 and she's 12 days today. She's a comfort sucker at night so it was a lifesaver. No issues with bf! Thank The Lord !!!

We use soothie. Love it! And if a give wonders there's no nipple confusion here.

We started using a soothie on day 5 and we EBF. No major issues with latching though he does the pigeon (face slams into my boobs) a bit more than before just prior to latching. I don't think this is nipple confusion because he goes on to eat quite a bit and is gaining weight like a champ.

Both kids started them in the hospital and we have zero issues because of them. Our issues are from two unrelated things.

Soothie here too and EBF. introduced around day 3 or so. No problems. Sometimes it will appear as if he doesn't want the pacifier -fussing and pulling back-, but gently and persistently offering it leads to him sucking on it almost every time. Then he calms right down. I think he would just rather have a boob and/or isn't sure what to do with it at first.

We use a pacifier and I EBF. We haven't had any issues and the paci has definitely been helpful. Especially at night when he's full but still wants to suckle something.

We use two. We have a soothie with an elephant hanging of of it that he sometimes gets to sooth him while we are awake and a nattersutten which is a natural rubber one that he can have on his own in bed. He was given one of the crummy nuk flat head ones in the NICU so we thought we would keep it up. Honestly, he rarely uses one and he latches and feeds like a champ but it is nice he takes one if we need those few minutes of comfort sucking.

Another vote for soothie and EBF. We started at 3 days and had no nipple confusion.

DH started her on it in hospital and she seemed to like but then I had latch issue so we stopped after like 2 times now that she's 2 weeks tried to re intro and she does want it

We gave him one before he was a day old and I have has zero issues breast feeding. Unfortunately he doesn't show much interest in either the paci or the smoothie..

We started him with a soothie (technically a wubbanub) on day 3. He will also take a Nuk but won't take anything if the real issue is hunger. We EBF and haven't had any issues.

Mam user here. I also have to supplement feelings and use nuk bottles. She doesn't have any nipple confusion. I'm lucky.

I am not opposed to using a paci, but Liam doesn't seem to care for them. We were using the gumdrop brand.

We are! Was very hesitant to give it to her but it's working out well now. The nurse at the hospital gave me one and said it was ok for newborns. My lactation consultant said otherwise. I decided to go ahead and use it when she was crying at 3 days old and I couldn't figure out what was wrong, she has just been changed and fed. Lo now takes the pacifier, a bottle and still nurses very well. I don't regret giving it to her at all. She is 8 days old.

We gave one around 2 or 3 weeks.  Her latch DID get lazier at first so I just had to work at making her open her mouth WIDE before giving her the paci.  Otherwise, no issues.

I only use one if I know he is super tired and comfort feeding. If he is actually hungry he won't take it. Most if the time he won't take it no matter what, but if he is tired enough it is a good soother.
I use the pacifier from the hospital and a Tommee Tippee one. He likes both. I like the one from the hospital more.

I wish. I was wary at first because I had heard of nipple confusion, but then my pedi said that two studies have come out recently that show no nipple confusion happens with pacifiers. So, we tried to give one since she's such a comfort sucker, but she hates it and gags on it. I don't know if it's the taste or what, but we've tried about 10 different kinds and we've had no luck. 

In any case, you should be fine offering a pacifier to help your LO sleep at night. Plus, it's supposed to lower the risk of SIDs if they fall asleep with the paci, so that's a bonus.

All 3 kids were/are EBF and given a paci in the hospital with no issues.

DH wants to give LO one for use as comfort. I said not until after 4 weeks. That's when I plan to introduce bottles and begin pumping. Only one more week left until the hubster gets his way. I'm not totally opposed to it, but am not super eager to have him on it, either. Sounds like Soothies is the way to go!

Our issues are not paci related. She's a great nurser. She has had a pacifier since the hospital. They gave her a soothie. Neither of my girls liked the soothies, though. They like the MAM or Avent ones.

We've tried the gumdrop ones when he's trying to marathon comfort nurse/at bedtime and with diaper changes that he screams through. No success. He doesn't know what to do with it; spits it out, gags...might try to order some soothies but they look just like the gumdrops we have.

We have used Nuk ever since we lefts the hospital with no issues bf'ing. It's a helpful tool!

He doesn't take a pacifier, and honestly I don't even try. He's pretty content on his own.

We tried to give him one a couple times but he's not interested. I'm EBFing and even when he did take it it had no baring on how he nursed.

We have used the soothie from the hospital a couple of times and tried the nuk, but she really doesn't need them or like them all that much.  Every now and then she will take one, but not often!

We just started the soothie on Friday.  Sometimes he takes it sometimes he does not.

This exactly. We introduced a paci when she was a month old.

Baby girl will be 3 weeks on Friday so I plan on introducing it then! Hoping it will help her sleep longer through the night! I don't like every three hours being woken up lol.

DS is only 4 days old so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Our lactation consultant told us though to wait until four weeks to introduce a pacifier when breast feeding because of nipple confusion. We will probably wait until then because DS is a little tongue tied and I don't want to risk messing up his latch which is not great to begin with.

We use a pacifier. She had it for the first time in the hospital, actually! Around week 2 she kind of went on a pacifier boycott. Now she will act like she doesn't want to take it, but as soon as she figures out what it is and starts sucking it's like immediate relief for her. We have the Avent soothers and NUK brand, but she much prefers the soothers. The NUKs pop out every 2 seconds because she has a lot of tongue thrust.

We have also been using the Soothie (wubbanub to be exact) for our little man and he has had no issues with his latch

I EBF and gave her a soothie in the car on the way home from the hospital.  Our hospital didn't give them to babies but I had packed one based on recommendations from friends.  It was a lifesaver in the car.  She is a comfort sucker, so this has saved us and me from nursing just to soothe her.  No breastfeeding issues at all.

We introduced a pacifier at 4 weeks. Smoothies popped right back out so we settled on a nuk latex. He only gets one during car rides and after Marathon nursing sessions where he wants to comfort suck.

LO took her first pacifier today at 2w2d. 

We tried one a few days ago, but she refused to have anything to do with it.  

Given how fussy she has been in the last 36 hours, and her desire to comfort suck on my (poor, aching) nipples, I am pretty thrilled that she'll accept a pacifier for 5-10 minutes at a time.

We use a pacifier-a Chargers themed one, go bolts!- and a hospital style one. Our son likes it and it often helps him get to sleep. We started out just using a finger or knuckle but that freaked me out and made it impossible to get rest.
I also use a nipple shield for breast feeding most of the time. Our son is tounge tied in top and bottom and I have shallow nipples. None of the non-nipple stuff seems to have deterred him from eating. He will still latch onto my nipple if it's been prepped by breast feeding or pumping.
