Birthing Center

Anyone using/used/had friends who used a birthing center?  This one is in NWA, and I'm interested to learn more about any experiences anyone has had with a birthing center.  I really like the idea of a home birth, but DH is scared that something could happen (medical intervention needed).  So this seems like more of a middle ground.
