Did your mom (or dad) ever come out on the porch and yell for you when you were little?

Like, "Melissa....Dinner."

I was just thinking that my mom used to do that all the time when it was dinner time b/c we just ran the neighborhood all day.  I have no idea where my husband and child are right now and was seriously contemplating it.  Dinner has been on the table for a long time.  LOL

  • Yes, my mom did!
  • I'm sure they did. We also ran around all over the place.

  • heck yeah!  But the classic line in our household was "time to wrap it up."  My dad used to say it all the time and it drove me CRAZY!!  I am sure that I will use it too--ha ha.

  • Usually it was my dad whistling for me to come in. ?Sometimes my mom would yell but my dad's whistle was louder.?

  • My mom had a whistle and she would blow it, if we didn't hear, one of the other neighbors would and they would yell at us.  My DH and DD are out walking.  Hoping they come home with some Pizza and ice cream!
  • now kids will just have their cell phones.  We will have to text them when dinner is doneConfused

  • Worse. She rang a COW BELL. In the CITY. It's what her mom did when she was a kid, so why not carry on the tradition? It was totally embarrassing for me.?
  • Oh yeah.  Everyone's mom did that growing up.  And I've done lots and lots with Ian.
  • Yes. I can defintely hear it in my head now.
  • Oh yes! And if we didn't hear her she got really pissy in her yells and it was so embarrassing!  lol.  Before long she just got a cowbell and rang it.  In our subdivision-no where near a damn farm!

  • We have always lived in the country.  I used to be acres away and usually playing with friends which included the boy who lived across the road.  His parents would honk the car horn three times.  That meant for him to come home...and I would too (unless I wanted to ride my bike or walk down a dirt road in the dark!).

For our older kids we never yelled.  We also live in the country and there were no playmates close enough for walking distance.  Closest was about 4 miles away.  We would just call on the phone and ask them to be ready when I get there.  With the two youngest I'll probably tell them to have their cell phones handy.  lol
