Jude as a mn for a girl? And MN advice.

My mums name is Judy and my husband had an Aunty Jude who he was quite close to, who passed away about 6 years ago.
DS' mn is Wallace after my dad.
We have decided on seraphina as a first name and my husband wanted to honour his Aunty by using Judy. Problem is, I don't like the "ee" sound!
We can just use Jude for a girls MN can't we? I looked up some baby name sites and some listed it as a girls name as well.
Second problem, DH was also VERY close to his grandmother and her name was Isabel. He wants Belle or bella in there too, but I think it's too much.
What do you think? Last name sounds like "pears"
Seraphina Jude
Seraphina Jude belle
Seraphina Jude bella
Seraphina Jude Isabel

Anything but Jude on its own sounds much to me.

  • I'm really not sure about Jude being a girls name. I don't know why it rubs me the wrong way, but it does. And I totally used a "boys name" on my DD (though it's pronounced like the herb not the traditional boys name.) What about just honoring Grandma and using Seraphina Isabel?

  • I've heard Jude used on a girl before (the main character from the tv show Instant Star was named Jude) but I prefer it on a boy. I think Seraphina Isabel is pretty. Save Jude or Judy for a future daughter or son.

  • That's just it! There will be no more babies after this!
Thx for the idea tho. Might end up doing just that!
  • What about Seraphina Judith? We have an Emily Kathrine in out family that has been nicknamed Emma Kat, so there is no rule saying you can't nickname her middle name to Jude. I don't think Jude is bad on its own though either. Just some thoughts!

Yeah, what's the issue with Judith?

  • Jude isn't a girl's name, it was a male saint, but I do know a woman at my church named Jude so anything is possible, I guess.

You can't honor every body with one baby, so I think it is better to pick either the aunt or the g-ma to honor and not both.

Alternatively I think Judybelle is better than Jude on it's own.

    Ha ha
Well actually.... My mums real name is Judith and she absolutely HATES it and has always gone my Judy. The only person who calls her Judith is my nanna. And my husbands Aunty was Judy not Judith.
I think the point of only honouring one person per baby is a really good one. I will tell DH to pick!

I like Seraphina Jude.  I don't like double MNs.  I think you pick one person or the other to honor.

Seraphina Jude gets my vote because I think anything goes in the MN spot and I think Seraphina is so girly on it's own that those other options are just over the top with it to me.

This. Plus I know a woman named Judy NN Jude. Okay with me.

  • My husband had an aunt named Jude. I also think anything goes in the middle name spot, for the most part. Seraphina Jude or Seraphina Isabel are both nice! You could totally do a double middle name and go with your last option!

I cringe at the idea of Jude on a girl.  Even in the middle name spot.

THIS. Jude has been my number one boy name for sooooo long.

I think Seraphina Isabel sounds and looks better anyway.

    FORMERLY NADCHAEL.

This. Typically I'm not for boy names on girls, but because its the MN spot and to honor family, It's ok IMO.

  • Psh, as a MN? Why is this even a discussion? OF COURSE it works, especially with a first name as beautiful and feminine as Seraphina!

  • a bump friend of mine named her daughter jude.  i also know several boy judes, though.  seraphina jude sounds lovely.  go with it!
  • I don't love boys names for girls, but middle names get a pass from me - especially if it's the name of a family member.

I do think he doesn't get all the names though.  Either his Aunt or his Grandmother, but not both.
