Forced break X2

I posted earlier about my arthritic feet (because I'm OLD, apparently) and it turns out I need surgery, and sooner rather than later.  I could wait to see if/when I get pregnant and have the surgery after having the baby, but this is a degenerative disease and, long story short, waiting could change the type of surgery I have to one with less positive results and a harder recovery.  Obviously I can't be pregnant and have the surgery, and there's no guarantee I'll get pregnant anytime soon.  Plus, do I really want to be immobilized and recovering from surgery if we have a baby?

I knew I was planning on going in for my baseline ultrasound today, so I figured we'd start our third and final IUI cycle, I'd schedule the surgery for a little over a month away after AF would be showing if I wasn't pregnant, and if I was pregnant we'd cancel the surgery and deal with my feet later.  We'd likely have a month break from treatments if this IUI didn't work anyway because we'd need to discuss our next steps (3 IUIs are all that are recommended), so it seemed like reasonably good timing.

Well, the baseline ultrasound today showed cysts caused by the Clomid, so no IUI this month.  We have the green light to try naturally this cycle, but this just pushes everything back.

I feel silly for complaining about only a few months setback, but I can't help but feel down about it.

God, I am such a whiner sometimes.  Chex mix and wine to those who got through that pity party (or feel welcome to join me!).

Re: Forced break X2

  • Awww! Girl, I am so bummed for you, but I can totally see the logic here. I can't imagine how miserable it would be to have all that pain in your feet and carry the weight of pregnancy (ouch)

It's definitely good to take care of your feet, but I am still pretty sad for you :( Do you know how long you'll have to wait? What's the recovery time looking like?

There's a difference between whining and venting. This is a totally justifiable vent! *big hugs* :( I hope everything goes amazingly well with the surgery, and you can get back on the TTC train a.s.a.p!

  • I can completely relate to this!! We just got told I may need surgery on my back from degeneration stress fracture. Spondylosis of the L5 S1 to be exact. I am having the SAME pitty party right now. So over all the delays, but like you... Do I wait and miss out on a couple cycles, or do I try to have a baby and deal with it after with harder recovery & a newborn. What a frustrating time. Im so sorry you are dealing with this too. Good luck sweetie!
  • Thanks @Mrs Castillo and @KC1212!  I appreciate the support.

As far as recovery, not so bad if I get it done now.  I'll take probably a week off of work and wear a boot for about 8 - 12 weeks, but I can walk with the boot on.  If the surgery's done later, I'd have to be non weight-bearing for 6 - 8 weeks.  So no walking without crutches, not driving, and no holding kiddos!  That would suck a lot.

I know the right thing to do, but this news on top of the cysts just felt like a big FU.

Then I went home and DS told me he wants to be a princess for Halloween and wear a pink princess dress.  What happened to the boxelder bug costume?!

  • @+SouthernMomma+ - so sorry you are going through the same thing!  It's hard to make the 'right' decision, and wait a few months, when everything inside is pushing you to go, go, go.

When are you going to have your surgery?  Maybe we'll be surgery buddies instead of cycle buddies.  Hey, at least it's something!  I'm always here if you need to vent or commiserate.

  • Yeah, I would be pro-boot option. Use the time to take a mental break. Your body also might enjoy the break from the drugs. Kinda give things a "rest".

It will all work out! I know it sucks. I haven't had breaks yet this time around but I did the first time around.

    Feel better soon!

Lol I'm sorry, but this is pretty effing hilarious. This entire post reminded me of the theme song from Cheers.

He's still young lol. If he wants to be a princess, I'd go for it.

    You got that right!!

Im not sure, I have another appointment with the surgeon in a couple weeks to go over more stuff. I am just SO on the fence about it, It not like its a "little" surgery. This is my spine we are talking about, lol. If he slips and screws something up, well I might as well start picking out rims for my new wheel chair! I am just so nervous, and I don't want to give up my cycles. :( I know I "need" to get it done, If I got pregnant and all that weight could make it even worse. But UGHHH im in a "Why me" moment. lol. Surgery buddies! I LOVE IT!! haha, Thanks girl, right back atcha!!!

Listen, I'm freaking out enough about my surgery, and it's a fairly simple outpatient surgery on my feet.  You have every right to be worried and to deliberate about such a big decision.  It sucks no matter what, and even more so because you're ttc.

Let me know what your decision is, I'll do my best to support you through it.  Fricking bodies that give out on us.

I don't think I've ever heard the whole theme song!  "And your husband wants to be a girl...".  Hilarious!

Also, I have no problem with DS being a princess, honestly, if he wants to.  It was just an interesting change of direction.

I will, and I will support you too! If I get a wheel chair with spinners you HAVE to get crutches with tassels (like little bikes have) or something, though. Don't you leave me out here hanging!! hehe!! Best of luck to you honey!
