My mom is in Canada, so 2 flights, about 4-6 hours travel. My mil is 1 h 45 mins away, and fil is 4-5 hours away... My mother is stay for a month, the in-laws are only coming for a few days, thankfully!!!
My folks and grandparents are 10 minutes away and my MIL is 45 minutes away. I have cousins in town and the rest of my extended family and DH's family live in the same city 6 hours away.
Both my in-laws and my Dad move to Florida in the winter. They are waiting till LO is born before leaving but will not be in the northeast till May of next year. And even then they are a 2/3 hour trip.
We just moved and we have no family close by I'm stressed out for when I go into labor about having to take our 6 year old along with us if my Dad doesn't drive up here quick enough. He is supposed to be here within the next week or so..so I'm hoping I do not go early.
Well my parents moved back once they found out we're expecting baby #1. So they live about 20 minutes from us; which is perfect not too close for constant "in the areas" but close enough to see often. However, in laws are about 5 hours away, 3.5 hours if no traffic at all. Planning on MIL flying out as soon as we drop the in labor bomb. Now LO has two god-fathers and one god-mother. The GF/GM married couple live in Portland OR and we live in Las Vegas, the other GF lives in Washington DC but works for an airline so he jumps on board as soon as he gets the call. Sometimes it really does suck!!!
My mom and in laws each live about 15 min away and I love it. Its nice our kids will gr ow up knowing their grandparents plus we will always have a sitter available between them and my siblings :-)
In-laws are about 2 minutes away but you'd never know it. We don't see them all that much. My mom and stepdad live 25 min away but are moving closer very soon. My dad & his wife are about 30 min away too.
There's no way I could be too far from my mom. We're super close and she's a huge help to me. I see her at least 2 times a week.
Re: how close does your family live?
My mom is coming for thanksgiving. My brother for Christmas. I hope my sister can come sometime in 2014/2015.
My inlaws have an afternoon each week with pj and my husbands siblings help with babysitting. It is great to have family close.
