Help me get rid of this smell!!!

Today, I am pretty sure the dryer almost caught on fire. ?I had a load of towels in there...added a robe and gown to it...walked away...and about 10 seconds later smelled a horrible smell. ?I went and turned it off, took the lint part out, took the clothes out, put them in a basket, and sat them out on the patio.

Luckily there were no flames or smoke inside or out by the dryer vent...but now, our entire house smells like we lit a charcoal grill inside and let it burn for a while!

I've Febreezed; I've lit candles; and I've got a big bowl of vinegar sitting in the laundry room. ?The repair guy is coming in the morning to check out the dryer. ?

?Any suggestions for the smell??

  • Yeah, no idea on that one.  Other than like Ozium spray, which you probably don't have on hand.  Maybe you had a burned out belt or something - that always smells AWFUL.

Glad you were home and no real fires happened though!  Yikes!

  • I'd open all the windows...try to air it out for a few hours.
  • No ideas other than what you've already tried.  One thought, though - I wonder if there could be something burning inside.  I would shut off the breaker to the dryer and unplug it.

  • Get a subway bread maker and start making bread.

Maybe two negatives will make a positive.

(I'm sorry that this was not a real answer.) Stick out tongue

  • Speaking from experience (although our house actaully burned to the ground), go to Lowe's or Home Depot.  You might need something with an ionizing agent.  Don't ask me what this means.  I just know that we needed  to ionize the space and stuff in our home.  And, it works!  I would think you can find something..........GL
  • This always works for me whenever there is a bad smell that won't go away

  • Thanks everyone! We've also opened windows and doors...turned the fan on...and sat out coffee and baking soda....haven't been out of the house, though...so I'm not sure if it's helping!
