for those that have had a uti before

How long were u on antibiotics until u felt a lot better?

I have been on them for two days I feel the pain I get is now a dull ache verses a sharp pain. But still definitely there and uncomfortable. I am still having braxton hicks more than before, Like 1 per hr or so. I know 6 an hr is cause for concern. But still I don't like them. I hope they space out after this infection is gone.

Re: for those that have had a uti before

  • I've only gotten UTI's while pregnant (so annoying).  And I have been told that the medicine (I've been given Macrobid) works a little slower than what you might be given if you were not pregnant - not as strong.  So it usually takes me almost all the way through the perscription to feel better.

Hopes this helps and that you feel some relief soon.  I've also been taking Cranberry pills with my PNV to help prevent.

  • Hmm. I've only had them pre pregnancy, so I'm sure its different. I would say 3 days to feel better. But don't stop taking the medication if you feel better! It's the worst you can do and you can get recurring ones.

  • I had 4 UTI's this pregnancy and the best advice I can give you is to take the antibiotics for 5-7 days to make sure the infection is gone. 3 days usually doesn't cut it and you risk it coming back in two weeks. Also be sure you are taking the proper antibiotics to treat your specific Infection and be sure to have your urine tested 5 days after you complete your lose dose to ensure its gone. I was also have BH all day with my most recent infection and the doctor checked to make sure I wasn't going to go into labor, due to the infection, so make sure you tell your doctor. Feel better XX

  • I always have to do 7 days of antibiotics, but I'm on immune suppressing medication for a chronic condition.

  • I will be on antibiotics for 7 days. I have been on for 2 doo far I was checked when it was diagnosed and thank god my cervix was closed. I had a urine culture done and it came back today as contaminated. I see my dr on Monday. But spoke to her assistant and She said they would recheck my urine after I was done and antibiotics. The pain isn't as bad as originally. I just never had one before and I know it can cause preterm labor so it just freaks me out. Plus I won't be 24 weeks till Sunday. I am just looking forward to Monday when I see my dr. Thanks for your input ladies!

  • I've only had UTIs when not pregnant, and I would feel better within 2-3 days. But those antibiotics are stronger than when you're not pg, I think. I would always take pyridium (Rx strength Azo) which zaps the pain by the first pee. Chug as much water as you can stand to flush out those painful bacteria!!

When they tested your urine did they culture it? You may have been on the wrong antibiotics. That happened to me in January (it was my first one and I didn't know any better) and now it won't go away bc its embedded in my bladder walls and wasn't treated properly for so long. Its always pretty painful for me too the first few days on the antibiotics until they kickin. I get back pain and pain in my bladder that spreads to my entire stomach.

  • I've never had one while pregnant, but I generally start feeling better around day 3 of antibiotics, but definitely check about Azo, it really helps with the discomfort. I hope you feel better soon!
