Pregnant after 35

maternity clothes

Hi ladies,

does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy cute, cheap, work maternity clothes.  I have a limited budget but I am not fitting into any of my work clothes anymore....not even my shirts ugh .... I feel so fat.  Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Thanks

kris

Re: maternity clothes

  • It's worth hitting up Goodwill; I got several pairs of work pants and a great pair of Gap Jeans very cheap.

I can wear jersey tops (Ts, tanks, other casual tops) with a cardigan in my office--YMMV--so I've been stocking up on sale items at Old Navy, Gap, and Target. I've purchased several tops for less than $5 each.

I keep meaning to check out JC Penny's and Macy's, as well, as they may have some dressier options at a lesser cost than Gap.

  • I have just received my first order from https://www.zulily.com/  a pair of black pants.  They were $16.99 plus $6. for shipping.  The seem to be a good quality and will be perfect- I have also ordered a pair of brown pants, grey pants, two 3/4 length shirts and a dress, I spent $115. on the clothes plus another $7 for shipping.

I am planning to borrow a few tops/sweaters from my SIL and I'm sure I'll get a few more things as pg progresses.  I have been to two consignment shops in my area but the maternity clothes were so worn out I didn't feel they were worth any amount of $.

  • Burlington Coat Factory, Ross Dress for Less. Target (hit the clearance racks for super deals), Old Navy

I just ordered some plus size maternity clothing from Kohls (Motherhood Maternity makes their line)  If you are regular size, you can buy it in store- again check the clearance racks for the best deals.

Check Facebook for maternity consignment pages or your local craigslist.  many women will sell their entire lot for cheap.

  • Motherhood isn't too bad if you need dress clothes for work. Their pants and jeans are $35. Then I got a few tanks on clearance from Motherhood and Target and wear them with a dress jacket with a cute belt above the bump (belt from Target). Once you buy something you usually get coupons. Also BBRU has some maternity and they always have coupons.
  • I second looking at Goodwill. You'd be amazed what you can find. For CHEAP. Also, nobody has mentioned this but it can be a great time to raid your hubby's closet with cooler weather coming. There are some really cute ways to incorporate menswear into your wardrobe for Fall and winter. And a belt just under your boobs can turn a lot of large tops into flattering maternity wear.

  • Like other people posted I found great deals at Old Navy and also Burlington Coat Factory.

  • I feel your pain!  I have a professional work event out of town on Monday and Tues of next week and I just realized I *might* have one thing that fits.  I tried to get a dress over my head the other day and couldn't get it over my boobs!  My slacks don't stretch the way my jeans do either.  Time to go shopping!

  • Old Navy has some cheap ones. They tend to have a better selection online than in the stores.

  • I've had some luck on Ebay and Old Navy, on-line.  I live in NM and there is a VERY limited selection of stores or inventory to shop the 'old fashioned' way.  Everyone here seems to just wear sweats through their 9 months :(
  • thanks ladies .... I finally had enough energy to hit the stores today ..... unfortunately not with much luck .... Apparently I am going to have to try online which I was avoiding because I really have no idea what size I need & hate the whole returning deal.   I got some blouses in the plus size regular clothes but my dilemma with this is that my boobs do not fit most of these tops and none of the pants work.   The only types of tops I have been able to find that are actually maternity are the fitted jersey ones .... I do not have that "oh so cute body with tiny bump" so they just make me more self conscious....ugh only 6 more months to go haha
  • I found that Old Navy dresses and Target separates fit me best- and are pretty good quality. I found some great deals for ON dresses online, then just had them altered to fit!
  • I like my maternity clothes from Gap best.  I have gotten some really great deals in the store ($4 corderoys, dress, khakis)...they also have good sales online, especially with an extra % off.

I second this. They run 30 and 40% off sales all of the time and their stuff lasts - nothing is worse than buying cheap maternity clothes that fall apart before you hit the 3rd tri. Check out local consignment stores as well.
