Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Christmas presents

Ok so I know we're still months away, and that baby won't remember his first Christmas ( except I want him, through the bajillion pictures I'd take, to know about it)

However, I'm relatively young (21) and I do have a job but publix but let's face it, everything's hella expensive. I want to give him an amazing first Christmas. Any tips on how I could do Christmas without breaking bank? Has anyone else thought of what they're getting baby?

Re: Christmas presents

  • Want to start now to spread it out, although I should have probably even started earlier

  • I saw something about giving one gift in each category: Something he needs, something he wants, something to wear, and something to read.  Of course, you don't really know what your LO wants at this point, but it could just be something you want for him. I thought this was a great idea and wish I heard of it sooner.

I know you really want your LO to have an awesome first Christmas, but please remember that he won't remember it.  An awesome Christmas also does not = piles of gifts.  Make it about family and starting traditions.  My mom always gave us an ornament for Christmas to commemorate an event that happened that year.  When we moved out, she gave us our ornament box to decorate our own Christmas tree.  I love telling DS about the different ornaments and have continued that tradition with my children. It is also inexpensive.

Also, keep in mind, if you start big, you will try to keep topping yourself each year.  Start off modestly and you can always increase later.

  • Love everything you said Spring_time. DH and I have already talked about Christmas and have decided to just get DS 1-2 gifts this year. He is so loved (read:spoiled:)) by the rest of the family, we know our tree is going to be filled with presents for him. Plus, we all know they're going to love the wrapping paper and boxes best anyway:)
  • Go to consignment stores! I went to a consignment sale and got big gifts for this christmas and next christmas LOL! Literally got an activity cube, little tikes play kitchen with Melissa and Doug food, little tikes vanity, blocks, and 10 other awesome laaugh and learn toys for $100.

This. I am so afraid that people are just going to LOAD DS with gifts at Christmas. He is the only baby in both families and he's spoiled, and I'm grateful he has a family that cares. But he does not need three hundred gifts that he'll either never use or not want in a few months.

People are already asking me so I'm saying clothes for the next size or two, books, and a few fun toys. Trust me, sometimes they have more fun with the boxes ;) So don't stress.
  • Just wrap everything in tissue paper or something crinkly but easy to tear. That will make for some crazy fun, super cheap Chistmas fun!
  • All great points and ideas!!! Thank you much!!!

  • Buy used.  Seriously - everything is plastic and washable and usually barely used.  Agree with crinkly paper (wrap up stuff you'd have to buy anyway - we did puffs, pouches, a baby toothbrush, etc.).  Also, if you have a pack n play, buy a set of plastic balls and make your own ball pit :)

  • I'm baby-proofing for his first Christmas present.  Haha.  Seriously, though, I'm setting aside the cash for summer fun passes to the zoo and a couple kiddie-amusement parks.  Since my hubby won't be home for J's first Christmas, it's going to be a tough one for me, and I'd rather invest in experiences for the 3 of us when my hubby is home next summer.  I am making a baby's first Christmas ornament snow-globe style, but with sand, since his dad's spending it in the sandbox.
  • this has been buggin me too! thanks for posting this and thanks for all the advice!
