Our sweet boy

Hi.. this summer I asked for lots of suggestions while we were waiting and thought I'd circle back and introduce our son! We were team green... and I had tons of girl names but were undecided on boys.

The winner-- Jack!! His name is John Charles ... but we are calling him Jack.

So far, I have met more people that have never heard of Jack as a nn for John. For us it's a family thing on both sides... so it's not hard to justify but I will say that generationally people have been confused. It's not just younger people... Whatever.. it works for us but I share that people do look at us odd when we do explain in case anyone is on the fence. We have no regrets but it is something to think about

Very cute. I'm one that doesn't get Jack as a nn for John. They are the exact same length and syllables, and don't seem connected in the least. I would wonder why you didn't just go with Jack LOL. I do know of 1 person a net friend not IRL and her hubby is a John that sometimes goes by Jack...he prefers John.

I'm one of those people too. I don't get it. To me they are two differnt names completely.

Regardless, your kids are beyond adorable! Congratulations!

ETA wanted to clarify that I've heard of people using Jack as nn for John, I've just never understood it.

FWIW I sort of agree that it's hard to see how Jack is a nn for John... except for the strong history. That said, it prevalent in our family. (My husband is John and named after his grandfather who went by Jack. My name is Jill... and I swear that had my husband used the nn Jack, we would have never dated. As a Jill, I was always teased w/the question of "where's Jack"! Wouldn't have worked as a partner!)

MJReilly-- my girls have slipped right into being a family of three sibs. Not one negative day. I think it's because they are nearly twins and never had that one on one time w/us so adding another sib didn't change then from an only child to a sibs.

Thanks for all the compliments. We are completely in love! For those that it wasn't obvious, we are an adoptive family. I forget that some may not get it. In fact the phone repair man this week saw my children and assumed I ran a daycare. I was so confused by his questions because to me it all looks "normal"

Congrats! I love the name! John nn Jack is on a short list. It makes complete sense to me as Jack is a diminutive of John. If it's good enough for the Kennedy's it's good enough for me
