23 month old eating question

Hi there I have a 23 month old who is extremely stubborn and strong willed!!! But when it comes to eating she will NOT sit in a highchair or a booster seat, she wants to sit in a reg. chair but she wants to come and go and take her food all over the place!!! I'm going nuts!!! Any thoughts on how to get her to sit at the table to eat a meal???

TIA!!!

Re: 23 month old eating question

  • We went through this sort of thing.  What we finally settled on was that DD could have two breaks from dinner.  When she put her feet on the floor, a break started.  She could take as long of a break as she wanted, and then come back to the table.  She could do that twice.  The third time her feet touched the floor (she was also in a regular chair by then), the food was taken off the table, dinner is done.  We usually have "dessert" (a piece of fruit), about half an hour after dinner (and just before bedtime routine gets started), so it wasn't her last food of the day, but the last substantial food.  Twice, she pushed, and she lost dinner, and she cried bloody murder.  But we stuck firm, and she's 99% consistent on it now.  She still pushes the boundaries ("my foot is hanging off the chair, but it's not on the floor") but we ignore anything that isn't actually breaking the rule.
