National Adoption Month: WWYD?

Since November is National Adoption Awareness Month, I was going to email my local library and see if they would consider doing a display with their available resources. And then I browsed their available resources.

Ugh. They have maybe 3 kids books, a guidebook for international adoption from 2002, a book on domestic adoption from 2004, and Instant Mom.

Given their lack of reference materials, do I even bother?

  • Good point. Off to C&P the FAQ book list

  • Quite often if you point out where they are lacking and make some suggestions they will order new books, and I know the library here is always looking for something new to support. Great idea!

  • I agree with the PP's...see how responsive they are--- depending on how big the system is, they can often borrow books from other places etc.

  • I would- it couldn't hurt for them to take another look at their materials and bring to light that additions or updates might be needed. I've actually donated two of the adoption related books I had to our library - specifically asking the librarian to put them in rotation and not save them for their fundraising sale.

  • I know the librarians where I work are always trying to find ideas for displays, so they are probably excited to have someone suggest something. :)
