IVF -needs to be FDA approved

My husband and I will be starting our 2nd IVF attempt next month, and we may need to use a gestational carrier. My nurse mailed me a packet of paperwork to complete and we both need to get bloodwork and a physical within 7 days of the retrieval so the eggs will be FDA ( not ADA, sorry for the typo) approved. This is the first I am hearing about this, can anyone give any insight into this ?

THX !!

Do you mean FDA? ADA is the American with Disabilities Act. The FDA tends to be the organization that oversees donor tissue.

If so, there is a standard that donors have to meet in order to donate tissue - they get screened for infectious diseases, among other things. If you are referring to FDA, this is totally normal.

EDIT: Sorry for some reason I read your post too fast thought you were using an egg donor. But I'd imagine the guidelines would be very similar to DE, DS or DEmbryo. They are trying to ensure there is no disease transmitted to your GC. Good luck!

  • It's normal - I had to go through the same thing recently. We had frozen embryos that we had used for our FET cycles, but when we decided to go with a GC we had to both get bloodwork done again.
  • Thanks ladies - this info is very helpful, I am happy to hear its the "norm" !
