Bottle Help!

My Daughter is 2 months old. She will not take a bottle! We were in the hospital for over a week with her due to a rough birth and I pumped in the hospital and she took the bottles no problem. Once we got home we finished up the pumped milk for about a week and then I went back to just breastfeeding thinking that the bottles were established and we would have no issues ( even the nurses said it was fine). So now here we are, I'm days from going back to work and she will not take a bottle. We have tried every bottle under the sun (including the ones she took in the beginning at the hospital!) She just screams, and cries and it breaks my heart. I dont have a choice financially but to work, but how can I go back to work if she will not eat while I am gone. She will scream for 8 hours straight, and my poor mother will take back wanting to babysit. I dont know what to do, and am at a loss, had I known this was going to be an issue I would have continued the bottles from day one but I was assured it would be fine! Has anyone else gone through this? Any tips or tricks? I am open to just about anything at this point!!

I had the same problem.  LO wouldn't take a bottle at all from DH or me and would SOB she was so upset.  I started back at work on Monday and warned my inlaws about how she had been refusing the bottle.  Much to all of our surprises, she ate for them with no problem.  The key was to sit her up and make eye contact while they were giving her the bottle.  I hope that helps.

BTW, she still wont take a bottle from me.

    We use Dr. Brown's too

  • Maybe try breastfeeding for a few minutes and then have someone give her the bottle? I agree with PPs though, you may have to leave the room/house. I agree with the paced feeding. I found that even the slowest nipple was really fast compared to the breast. Maybe that's frustrating for her? Someone recommended a preemie nipple to me.
  • BFing didn't last long for us unfortunately, but we got the ComoTomo bottles from Amazon and we love them. The other reviews said they didn't have a problem switching back and forth from the bottles to breast and the 0-3 size is definitely a slow flow. You could try those, or if you go with Dr. Brown's, definitely get the preemie nipple. My DD is 3 months and we just switched her to the level 1.
