Did you have bassinets?

Debating on if it's really necessary. We were thinking we'd get a couple rock n plays for the living room and then dual-use them as bassinets if need be. I've read they shouldn't be used as a primary sleeping place - so just wondering the average!

Our bedroom is directly across from where the nursery will be.

Re: Did you have bassinets?

  • We just bought the twin bassinet pack n play from Graco for our room so they could be side by side but separate even though our set up is like yours where nursery is directly across the hall. I used a bassinet pack n play with my first and it made life so easy when it came to nursing. Even though he was a vaginal delivery I was so sore getting up to walk it was just was not fun so having him right there was so much easier. Then it was something we could fold up and take along or store easily after we were done. Then for the living room we got the mamaroo. With my son I found it best to keep the bouncer seats and swings separate from what he slept in because he would get confused if that makes sense. Keeping play separate from sleep area. Every baby is different though but it made it easier to establish a sleep routine. Even though my twins are not here yet in past experience it was nice to have baby right there next to me. :) Hope that made sense I had some serious pregnancy brain going on while trying to type that for some reason I just can not seem to focus these days haha!

  • I was given a set of bassinets from a MoM with much older babies. They came in handy since I'd been on extended bedrest in hospital and did not get a chance to set anything up for them before their birth. We used them for about the first month until we were able to get the cribs arranged. I wouldn't have paid full price for two, though, and gone with pack n plays instead since they have more "mileage" so to speak.

  • other: we got heirloom cradles... but for now we only use one:

That's the guy who made them... my Dad.

But honestly, we mainly use it for naps. the boys like to sit in bouncers, and they sleep in their cribs

  • I said "other". I didn't use bassinets at night. But my kids napped in a PNP bassinet (regular one) until they hit the weight limit for it and switched to predominately napping in swings. I didn't need a bassinet, but I did need something for them to nap in downstairs. I registered for 2 PNPs because I knew we'd use them for other things so I didn't get any other kind of bassinet.
  • We set up a full crib in our room. They babies slept together until we caught them rolling into each other and "snuggling". That was at about 2 mos old. Then it was a quick move to seperate cribs in their own room.
  • The bassinets were a waste of money and space for us.  Our boys ended up sleeping in their RnP's for several months. If I had to do it over again, I would have just had them in their crib from the beginning.

  • My girls have reflux and sleep in their RnP.

  • We used the pack and plays with the full-size bassinet.  We are just transitioning now to a convertible crib/bed.

they slept together in a Pack and Play for the first 3.5 months, worked out great
  • Can anyone recomend the Graco twin bassinet pack n play? I haven't heard the best reviews so I'm wondering if I should just get a regular one?

  • @linds2417 We have a singleton pack n play that we spent a lot of money on for our first born worth every penny. We recently bought the twin bassinet pack n play  (the singleton one will get more use when they are bigger or be brought to my moms so we knew we wanted to buy a second) we set it up and I love it as much as the one we spent hundreds on that came with all the latest features. The bassinets are very spacious and its easy to set up and take down. Quality is just as nice and will work perfect for having them close but not in the same bed. A lot of those reviews I take with a grain of salt because 1) people have high expectations of wanting all the features like my singleton one has and they don't get that with this one but its all unnecessary and now learned that now that I am not a FTM its a learning experience :) lol 2) some people really just don't like the bassinet concept so when they realize the crib situation is better from them suddenly its the pack n plays fault and leave a bad rating because now they are out the money they spent 3) With twin products I have found a lot of moms will leave reviews because they just think its gimmicky and simply just that so reviews are based off that thought they have. I have it set up in my home right now as we speak I know its well worth the money we paid we will use it a lot as pack n plays just work well for us and our kids twins or not. I just like the fact they are separated so one less thing I need to worry about at night.  If you actually read why those people left a bad review its for a silly reason but the large majority had good things to say all baby products have good and bad reviews unless something is across the board bad I wouldn't read too much into it because otherwise you wouldn't want to buy any baby product ever. I hope that helps some. I know I am just one person but it really is sturdy, great quality, useable for a decent period of time until we will place them in cribs and they are together but seperate in the room next to me without huge bulky furniture taking up my whole bedroom. also they are easy to clean if you have a leaky diaper or spit up :)
