Sleep Help!

My daughter is 7.5 months old. She began sleeping through the night at around 4 months. Last month we started on purée foods and oatmeal and she hasn't slept through the night since. She was waking up a couple of times in the night (around 2-3 and 4-5). Now she's waking up consistently at 5:30am; an hour earlier than I wake her up. I can get her back on schedule with feelings, but her sleep schedule is completely off the mark. Each day. For a working mom, this is making life quite difficult. So, do I put her down earlier than our 7:30pm bedtime, later, same time, just ignore her cries (I'm not a fan of doing this). Maybe this is just a growth spurt and the phase will pass? Giving her tylenol hasnt seemed to work- not sure shes teething yet. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Sleep Help!

  • Have you tried a cereal bottle before bed? That has worked for us. Our little guy started to wake up an hour earlier than he use to, as well, but it's usually to gab for awhile and go back to sleep after I stick his bink back in and tell him it's still time to sleep.

It could just be a growth spurt, too, like you said. I hope things get back on track for you soon!

  • First time mom here.. What's a cereal bottle?
  • It's formula or breast milk mixed with any type of infant cereal. And you can make it as thick as you want to or your little one can handle. We use either Gerber rice cereal or oatmeal and mix it with his formula. You can buy cereal nipples at any Wal-Mart.

OP DON'T DO THIS. This is a choking hazard and very dangerous. Cereal before bed doesn't help a child sleep longer. If you're doing this and your child is sleeping then it's a coincidence. Read the AAP website for more info on how dangerous this is. This is ONLY recommended for reflux babies and by a pediatrician.
I'm curious why you think it's a choking hazard. I never said to leave the baby alone with it especially in bed. Supervision is the key. And as for a choking hazard, anything can be a choking hazard. I don't like to rely on scientific studies to determine what I do with my child. I politely disagree with you; I don't think it's dangerous. But we all have our opinions/advice, and I was just giving mine.
  • I agree with not putting cereal in the bottle. Even if it worked for STTN, you could just feed it with a spoon.

OP, I don't know. We've been having similar issues, actually. The last few days DS woke up at 4:45 for the day, and I was like a zombie. I think a lot of it is developmental and their little brains are working over time. We are in the middle of wonder "week" 26 and I'm not a fan. :P Is she drowsy at bed time or overtired? You could try putting her to bed a little earlier. I know when my kids are overtired, they sleep a lot worse.
  • She gets 4 tbsps of oatmeal cereal with apple juice, formula and oil before bed- she's underweight. We do our bath routine then she's topped off with bm. So, her tummy is quite full before she falls asleep.
  • The full tummy may or may not be a myth. if your baby STTN  through the night previously and is now waking up multiple times a night, i highly doubt it's food. Could definitely be developmental. does she wake up hungry and crying or..just wake up and fuss a little?  could be teething, tylenol doesn't really seem to matter to our DD either if that's the case.  It could be 24905843 things but it really doesn't sound like the food UNLESS it's hurting her tummy
