Bible cartoon recommendation?

Hi all, looking for more advice if you have some :-)

So we try to avoid tv for DD as much as we can but honestly there are quite a few times during the day (mostly in the morning and at night) when it's helpful to have her watch some while I try to do some house work (newly a SAHM here yayyyyy!). Usually we defer to PBS which is ok or if they don't have a cartoon on then Disney Jr.
DH suggested maybe trying to find some DVDs of cartoons that emphasize bible teachings instead or just to switch it up sometimes- which I think is a nice idea but don't really know of any. Does anyone have any suggestions of cartoons that are age appropriate and bible centered? (Again, I'm not talking about a day-long babysitter). Thanks for your input.

Re: Bible cartoon recommendation?

  • Veggie Tales!
  • We stick to PBS and Disney, but not a ton of either. As far as Bible stories, the only thing I've found that I care for is Veggie Tales. Following to see if there are any other suggestions!

  • we dont have cable but in our area they have two channels Qubo ( 68.2) and I think the other one is called Smile ( 58.5)  both are very good for educational and cartoons with a lesson or moral.. but I think 58.5 is more religious orientated.

I believe both are run by christian groups but to be honest I'm not that way inclined so I really dont know.  I just  like the ones on Qubo because they are educational and have messages which I find appropriate and follow my own personal code.

Jane and the Dragon, 321 Penguins and Zula Patrol are his favorites, but he also likes  Rescue Heros and animal exploration...and of course Curious George which he watches on amazon Prime

321 Penguins most definitely has bible references .. It doesn't bother me that they do even though it's not my thing.

  • Veggie tales is all I know. Have you tried YouTube, amazon prime videos and on demand? Not biblical, but dd likes Doc McStuffins on Disney jr. It is cute, not annoying and teaches good lessons. I don't mind dd watching it.

  • Another vote for Veggie Tales.  Like Wipz said, there do seem to be some religious-based networks with cartoons on non-cable stations.  We don't have cable either.

  • 321 Penguins and Veggie Tales are big hits here. Hermie (written by Max Lucado and is a series of books as well). Boz the Green Bear.

    I love Max Lucado.

  • Wow, thank you for the responses! Veggie tales sounded like it was about eating healthy! I looked it up and it appears that penguin 3-2-1 is produced by the same makers of veggie tales. I will order some of both off amazon. Also I didn't mean to imply that I found PBS cartoons or some of the others inappropriate it's just that we'd also like to find something that will educate DD in Christianity also. Plus sometimes I think if I watch one more episode of Super Why or Cat In The Hat my brain will melt! ("What sound does B make? Buh Buh Buh...")
Also, nice idea about YouTube - I'll try that also. Though it's hard to do anything on my computer without DD slamming on the keys.
Thank you again for the suggestions I really appreciate it!
